In Search Of The Wind-Band (Video Trailer) Book Video Excerpts From Around The Globe, Dan Rager

Dan Rager

“International Instrumental Dissemination” describes instrument types in 16 countries that include Rock & Roll to Sousa and Puccini. This book explores detailed and precise history. The 21 chapters contain hundreds of photos, videos, mp3 and pdf files bringing to life unknown cultures and ensembles from around the globe from which I visited and recorded first hand. The book is designed to take an entire semester to study and explore. I promise you have never heard or seen most of these groups much less the enormous, precise evolution of instruments presented in the book. Where did our modern instruments evolve from? …

Teaching Creative Writing In The Age Of Common Core, Casey Unverferth Feb 2016

Teaching Creative Writing In The Age Of Common Core, Casey Unverferth

Honors Projects

The core of my honors project includes a 12-day unit plan for teaching creative writing in the form of narratives. I created lessons for 12 days, created the materials needed for each day, and created a website where my work has been displayed for my future classroom. The website link is: teachcreatewrite.weebly.com. All materials for the unit plan are broken down by day, and I chose to expand upon 3 days in a short lesson plan template.

From Bubble To Bridge: Educating Christians For A Multifaith World, Marion H. Larson, Sara L. H. Shady Jan 2016

From Bubble To Bridge: Educating Christians For A Multifaith World, Marion H. Larson, Sara L. H. Shady

Faculty Books

Summary: In a world of deep religious strife and increasing pluralism it can seem safer to remain inside the "bubble" of our faith community. Many Christians worry that engaging in interfaith dialogue will require watering down their faith and accepting other religions as equally true. Marion Larson and Sara Shady not only make the case that we can love our religious neighbors without diluting our commitment, but also offer practical wisdom and ideas for turning our faith bubbles into bridges of religious inclusion and interfaith engagement.

Contents: Why interfaith engagement? A civic imperative: The world is a really big place …

Human Rights And War Through Civilian Eyes., Thomas Smith Jan 2016

Human Rights And War Through Civilian Eyes., Thomas Smith

Faculty Books

International lawyers and ethicists have long judged wars from the perspective of the state and its actions, developing international humanitarian law by asking such questions as "Are the belligerents justified in entering the conflict?" and "How should they conduct themselves during the war's execution?" and "When civilian noncombatants are harmed, who is responsible for their suffering?" Human Rights and War Through Civilian Eyes reimagines the ethics of war from the standpoint of its collateral victims, focusing on the effects of war on individuals—on those who are terrorized, or killed, or whose lives are violently disrupted. Upholding a human rights analysis …

New Degree Programme Bachelor Of Arts (Honours) In Horticulture And Landscape Management In Hong Kong, Allen Hao Zhang, Leslie Hung Chi Chen Jan 2016

New Degree Programme Bachelor Of Arts (Honours) In Horticulture And Landscape Management In Hong Kong, Allen Hao Zhang, Leslie Hung Chi Chen

Faculty of Design & Environment (THEi)

In recent years, the Government of the HKSAR has updated its policy to improve urban greenery and landscaping. According to the greening plan of the Greening, Landscape, and Tree Management Section (GLTMS) under the Development Bureau, there are new requirements in place to provide a minimum of 20-30% of greenery to both government and private developments. Hence, the demand for landscape and horticultural management, in particular aspects related to arboricultural maintenance and management, has increased largely. At present, there are no University Grants Committee (UGC) funded degree programmes in horticulture and landscape management studies. The Technological and Higher Education Institute …

J.S. Bach, Suite For Violoncello Solo, Performed On Mandola, Lee Bidgood Dec 2015

J.S. Bach, Suite For Violoncello Solo, Performed On Mandola, Lee Bidgood

Lee Bidgood

My arrangement of this iconic piece for mandola, an interpretation project that emerged from my work leading a mandolin orchestra at ETSU. This particular recording was facilitated by the discovery of an instrument donated to our department, a 1920s Gibson mandola. This fabulous instrument gave me the voice with which I could articulate the way I heard this piece, one that I have turned over in my head and hands since I was in high school.

Foster's The Coquette: Audiobook, Part 1 (Chapters 1 To 7), Jon Miller

Jon Miller

A reading of chapters 1 through 7 of Hannah Webster Foster's 1797 novel, The Coquette; or, The History of Eliza Wharton. The late eighteenth-century English can be difficult to understand on a first reading, and I think it helps to have someone read it to you. For best results, open the book and read along as the audio plays. This file runs about 34 minutes.
