Throwing Down The Gauntlet: Finding The Best Partnership For Fight Scene Work, T. Fulton Burns
Theatre Faculty Research
Over the past few years I have written my perspective on the Skills Proficiency Test process. Earlier this year I thought that my process was complete but then an issue continued to creep up in my mind over and over again. It was that I had not addressed how best to find a partner for one's scene work. The reason for finding a good partner relates to my first workshop in stage combat. Discovering with whom to partner and with whom not to partner for scene work was the most valuable lesson I learned. Rather than focusing upon the ones …

Dark Matters, Office Of Arts + Cultural Programming, Peak Performances At Montclair State University
2010-2011 PEAK Explores the Answer: Experiments in Arts & Technology
Do you wish you could be anonymous in our very public world? Crystal Pite covers the faces and hands of her dancers in an effort to find purity and grace in their anonymity, while noting that our most powerful universal force is noticeably invisible. Dark matter comprises approximately 96% of the observable universe, affecting the speed, structure, and evolution of galaxies, yet it is essentially unknown. Dark Matters invites its audience into a mysterious world bounded only by time, space, and object. Puppetry, new music, and dance commingle in original and evocative configurations, making Dark Matters a signature work by …

Double Vision, Office Of Arts + Cultural Programming, Peak Performances At Montclair State University
2010-2011 PEAK Explores the Answer: Experiments in Arts & Technology
Did you ever hope to see the world anew when looking through a crystal prism? Double Vision offers a similar experience, only the entire stage becomes the optical illusion. An interdisciplinary encounter created by an acclaimed choreographer and world-class architects, Double Vision animates the stage in paradoxical ways. The ephemeral nature of Carolyn Carlson’s dance is exposed by Electronic Shadow (architect Naziha Mestaoui and media artist Yacine Aït Kaci). Blurring the distinction between illusion and reality, Double Vision leaves a convincing argument for the existence of a parallel universe.

2010-2011 Season
In Garson Kanin’s pointed and hilarious Born Yesterday, personal and political oppression is exposed and outwitted in the intellectual rebirth of the iconic “dumb blonde”, Billie Dawn, who ultimately stands up to Harry Brock’s violent intimidation and shuts down his shady bid for governmental cooperation. https://stageagent.com/shows/play/4838/born-yesterday

2010-2011 PEAK Explores the Answer: Experiments in Arts & Technology
Does discovering young talent trained in the classical canon give you a thrill? Join us to hear the best of the best. Young Concert Artists (YCA) is a seminal force in the performance field. Since 1961, YCA has been dedicated to launching the careers of exceptional, but unknown, young musicians from around the world. The performers in this special concert are all recipients of the Alexander Kasza-Kasser prize, awarded annually by YCA to its most promising discoveries. With YCA’s track record, one or all of these artists could be the next Lang Lang, Richard Stoltzman, or Renée Fleming! The concert …
We Will Not Be Silent
Taylor Theatre Playbills
The playbill for Taylor University’s October 2010 performance of We Will Not Be Silent. by William Gebby.
During the darkest days of WWII, a handful of German college students distributed thousands of anti-Nazi leaflets and worked toward unifying resistance across Germany. They called themselves the White Rose, and their faith drew them to engage in a fight that would cost them their lives. William Gebby’s brand new play celebrates the lives of these brave young people who would not and will not be silent.
Performed by the Taylor Touring Company.

Center for LGBTQ Studies (CLAGS)
WOW Cafe Theater, a collective for female and and trans performance artists, strutted its stuff during its Pearl festival in May by celebrating thirty years of producing risk-taking, genre-defying theatre during the entire month of May 2010. Featuring more than twenty performances and fifty artists spanning a broad spectrum of music, dance, and multi-media, the Pearl festival was arguably the biggest and longest running theatrical event for women in New York during this summer, made possible by a generous grant from the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council.

The Bald Soprano
Taylor Theatre Playbills
The playbill for Taylor University’s Fall 2010 performance of The Bald Soprano by Eugène Ionesco.
The Bald Soprano: An Anti-Play follows the events of a traditional couple who invite over another couple, and are later joined by their maid and the maid’s lover. The characters engage in meaningless banter that becomes even more nonsensical as time goes on.
In this adaptation the actors play the actresses’ roles and the actresses play the actor’s roles.

University of Minnesota, Morris production of Art by Yasmina Reza and directed by Ray Schultz.
Synopsis: A translation of a French-language play, Art is about one man, Serge, who buys an expensive painting, a white canvas with a few white lines, and the reactions of his friends, Marc and Yvan, to his purchase. Marc responds with shock and anger; for him, Serge's purchase of the painting is a cruel joke. Yvan tries to mediate the hostility between Serge and Marc, at the cost of redirecting them to himself. As the conversations moves from the theoretical to the personal, the three …
