Luther’S Preaching Of Good Works, Robert Heckmann Jun 1954

Luther’S Preaching Of Good Works, Robert Heckmann

Bachelor of Divinity

The purpose of this thesis is to examine Luther's preaching of good works and evaluate his work somewhat on the basis of the standard layed down in the next section. It will include a short study of his preaching style and habits in general, an examination of his definition of good works and his description and use of the power of the Gospel to enable the people to live the life in Christ.

The Preaching Of The Gospel In Selected Lenten Sermon Series Of Bishop Fulton J. Sheen, Donald R. Miesner Jun 1954

The Preaching Of The Gospel In Selected Lenten Sermon Series Of Bishop Fulton J. Sheen, Donald R. Miesner

Bachelor of Divinity

The thrust of this thesis is twofold in essence. It sets out to (1) determine what is contained in the preaching of the Gospel according to the New Testament; and, to (2) determine how Bishop Sheen’s Lenten preaching portrayed that New Testament kerygmatic pattern. The study further reveals that Sheen's Lenten preaching in many instances departs from and/or runs counter to the kerygmatic formulation.

A Prolegomenon To New Testament Language In Light Of Contemporary Linguistic Analysis : A Look At Paul’S Meaning And Use Of Theological Language In I Corinthians 2:6-16, John Stern Jun 1954

A Prolegomenon To New Testament Language In Light Of Contemporary Linguistic Analysis : A Look At Paul’S Meaning And Use Of Theological Language In I Corinthians 2:6-16, John Stern

Bachelor of Divinity

This, then, is the purpose of this study: to look more closely at what scholars in many fields have had to say regarding the matter of human language and its ability to make religious assertions. In an attempt to define this purpose more accurately, it will be necessary to: (a) examine the field of contemporary Linguistic Analysis in light of its historical setting;(b) describe the relationship between the phenomenology of language and religious language; (c) consider the work being done presently in the area of modern linguistic studies in biblical research and see its effect upon the formation of theological …

A Study Of The Use Of The Phrase Faithful Is God In The New Testament Writings, Donald D. Schaeffer Jun 1954

A Study Of The Use Of The Phrase Faithful Is God In The New Testament Writings, Donald D. Schaeffer

Bachelor of Divinity

The concept of God's faithfulness is implicit in all of the Sacred Scripture; indeed, one could say that the Bible is, in a sense, the story of God's faithfulness. But only comparatively seldom does this attribute of God come to the surface explicitly. The purpose of this thesis is to study those passages and their context in the New Testament where it is specifically mentioned. Each of those passages is like a facet of a diamond, revealing a new aspect of God's faithfulness, high lighting another element of it, making our conception of it richer and deeper.

A Study Of The Paraclete Passages In The Gospel Of St. John, Dale G. Lasky Jun 1954

A Study Of The Paraclete Passages In The Gospel Of St. John, Dale G. Lasky

Bachelor of Divinity

This paper proposes fundamentally to make a study of the passages where the term Paraclete is found in the Gospel of John. The reference in I John 3:1 has been omitted for, although the Greek term used is the same, the references refer to the Holy Spirit.

The Relationship Between The Concept Of Charis And Santification In The Epistles Of Paul, Harold W. Scheibert Jun 1954

The Relationship Between The Concept Of Charis And Santification In The Epistles Of Paul, Harold W. Scheibert

Bachelor of Divinity

This thesis is an attempt to find the correct New Testament relationship between this great indicative and this great imperative on the basis of St. Paul’s use of the Greek term, χάρις.

The Concept Of Faith And Hebrews 11:1, John R. Nielsen Jun 1954

The Concept Of Faith And Hebrews 11:1, John R. Nielsen

Bachelor of Divinity

The purpose of the writer, as he began this study, to determine upon the basis of 11:1 what the concept of faith according to Hebrews actually is. However, upon a study of the Epistle itself, we have come to the conclusion that this verse neither defines nor describes faith. Rather it sets forth the only way in which it is possible to have a firm foundation for hope. It makes the assertion that it is by faith that one can have a basis and foundation for eschatological blessings, and certainty in the unseen spiritual realm.

The New Testament Teaching On The Doctrine Of Entire Sanctification As A Second Crisis Experience, Dean W. Strong May 1954

The New Testament Teaching On The Doctrine Of Entire Sanctification As A Second Crisis Experience, Dean W. Strong

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

Any true study of the doctrine of entire sanctification must being with the fact that God is a holy being. A study of this nature, except as it is related to the demand of God, has very little meaning. Dr. H.O. Wiley said that in the Father, holiness is original and underived, and in the Spirit, holiness is imparted. Holiness is a relative term when applied to man. An unbiased study of the Scriptures has shown that God has demanded that man be holy, and that man in his natural condition is not holy in God's sight. The problem resolved …
