This article focuses on the structure, challenges, and outcomes of a service-learning pro-ject experimented by an art historian in an innovative special topics course Museum Experience, cross-listed with an Honors art appreciation course. The discussion includes: creating a new course content planned according to a multidis-ciplinary perspective uniting elements of art appreciation, museum studies and art history research methodologies; planning a mutual dialogue of theory and practice by structuring a partnership with the art museum and graphic design in a service-learning project, consisting in both essay and layout of an exhibition catalogue. “Manual of Arms” is a video project of a choreographed performance where 16 women perform a series of moves based on drill routines. Questions are raised in the work about the roles and relationships between sports, gender and guns in this culture. The project involved weeks of rehearsal, culminating in a videoed performance involving students and faculty from the Department of Art.

“Intersexions” is a project including ceramic forms and mixed media painting developed during a six-week artists’ residency at Whitireia Community Polytechnic in New Zealand during the summer of 2015. The work explores ideas relating to boundary crossing and the construction of gender.

The Isle Royal National Park Artists-in-Residency Program is a national juried competition for artists of any medium to spend two or three weeks on the Island in the historic Dassler family cabin with accommodations provided by the Park, pursuing their creative endeavor. The 50 selected images were displayed at the University of Wisconsin, Wisconsin Union Galleries in Madison, WI.

"Abandoned Harbor" a 16x20 digital inkjet print from the series "Vanishing Points" placed in the national competition "Creative Images Fine Art Photography" and will be exhibitied in the Artsgarden in Indianapolis, Indiana for the month of November. The series, "Vanishing Points" documents the landscape of abandoned mines in Michigan's Upper Peninsula as they appear today with hand-built pinhole and zoneplate cameras.
