Strategic Energy Master Planning For Carbon Neutrality, Marie Patterson Jan 2022

Strategic Energy Master Planning For Carbon Neutrality, Marie Patterson

CSU Journal of Sustainability and Climate Change

Universities across the United States are generating goals to be more sustainable and carbon neutral. The energy used in existing buildings on campuses amount to a large volume of greenhouse emissions and must be reduced to help achieve neutrality goals. Strategic Energy Master Plans are instrumental to support these goals through the development of recommendations to reduce energy. Calculating the energy use intensity for existing buildings, a main component of a Strategic Energy Master Plan, can help the campus understand where energy is being used the most. With this information the highest energy consuming buildings can be the focus of …

Voices Of Cully: A Case Study Of The Living Cully Weatherization And Home Repair Project 2.0, Lucy J.T. Cultrera

Cal Poly Humboldt theses and projects

The Cully neighborhood is situated in the Northeast quadrant of Portland, Oregon. It is 2.75 square mile plot of land and home to roughly 13,000 people. In addition to being one of the most diverse neighborhoods in Portland, it is the most densely populated, with the smallest amount of parkland per capita. Over the last two decades, home value has increased 203% in Cully, compared to a 90% citywide increase. Amidst these development trends are stories of incredible resilience, resistance and activism from the affected community. My project is a case study of one anti-displacement initiative, which was developed and …

Seely & Titlow Co. Building, Susie Van Kirk

Susie Van Kirk Papers

The building under consideration for historic designation is only part of what once constituted the Seely & Titlow Co. complex which included retail stores, offices, stockrooms, barns, and warehouses. Minor Theatre And Minor Building, Susie Van Kirk

Susie Van Kirk Papers

The Minor Theatre and the adjacent Minor Building have been submitted for consideration for designation under the City of Arcata's Landmark and Historic Preservation Overlay Zone (LHP). Both buildings are historically important to Arcata by virtue of their association with pioneer lumberman and entrepreneur Isaac Minor and because of their contribution to the commercial, social and cultural life of the community. Although the buildings have experienced exterior alterations since their construction three- quarters of a century ago, both retain sufficient architectural integrity to easily qualify for LHP designation.

Susie Van Kirk Papers

The City of Arcata is developing a sports complex, including playing fields and structures, on its property lying south and west of 7th and Union Streets. Prior to the commencement of construction, an archaeological investigation was performed to determine the extent and significance of a previously-identified prehistoric site. To assist in the evaluation of these artifacts, research of the historic component of the property was undertaken. This report discusses the historic environment and land use, land ownerships, biographical information on some of the families associated …

Ferndale Sewer Project, Susie Van Kirk Feb 1988

Ferndale Sewer Project, Susie Van Kirk

Susie Van Kirk Papers

With its exceptional array of Victorian and turn-of-the- century commercial and residential structures, Ferndale is recognized statewide as a place of historic significance. Individual structures are notable examples of late 19th and early 20th century styles, many displaying the opulent applied ornamentation of the period. But the significance of this collection is not simply that of individual structures; rather, it is the architectural and historic integrity of the town as a whole that preserves a Victorian character rarely found in late 20th century America. These notable examples are supported by a sprinkling of settlement-period house types and good representatives of …

The Beers-Ely House, Susie Van Kirk Aug 1987

The Beers-Ely House, Susie Van Kirk

Susie Van Kirk Papers

It was during Bertha Averell's ownership that the house was remodeled with Craftsman features. The tax assessment for 1924 shows an increase in assessed value for improvements which could indicate the new construction.

The Ely-Ioelu family ownership spanned more than forty years. Paul and Anna Ely were well-known Arcata residents who owned the Varsity Sweet Shop/Restaurant on the east side of the Plaza from 1945 until 1968. They lived in the house until their daughter and her husband purchased it in 1965.

History Of The Union Water Company, Susie Van Kirk

Susie Van Kirk Papers

The Arcata Volunteer Fire Department was organized on January 24 1884 in response to a growing awareness that the pump-and-bucket operation on the town's Plaza was inadequate to protect the business district. A necessary part of that new department, of course, was a dependable water system; the organization of the Union Water Co. took place in December 1883. This report covers the establishment and history of the Union Water Company.

Mcmillan House, Susie Van Kirk Apr 1984

Mcmillan House, Susie Van Kirk

Susie Van Kirk Papers

The architectural integrity of the McMillan House has been negatively impacted by several significant alterations. These include the addition in the northeast corner, the front door, the louvered window in the upstairs of the south wall, and the window shutters. Other alterations have occurred, but they are not particularly intrusive and could remain without impinging upon the building's architecture.

Humboldt Bay Masterplan (Environmental Impact Report), Susie Van Kirk

Susie Van Kirk Papers

Descriptions of Indian sites on Humboldt Bay have not been attempted in this report. According to Loud (1918) there were 115 archaeological sites located in the Wiyot territory which roughly covered the lower Mad River, the lower Eel and fill of Humboldt Bay Approximately 70 of these sites were on or near the bay. Many of the important village sites have been lost to development. The clearings in the forest, streams, and bluffs above the tidelands were naturally chosen by white settlers just as they had been chosen by Indian people generations before.

Inventories of Wiyot sites in the area …
