Changes in Lone Peak Conservation Nursery customer profiles cause state nursery leaders to question what their products are being used for and how trends in native plant use are changing the market for Utah native plants. The Utah native plant market is changing as interest in native plants is expanding to meet new conservation objectives, oftentimes in urban settings. This newer demand for native plants appears to be motivated by current changes in urban conservation behavior, continued population growth in the arid West, scarcity of water resources, the increasing appreciation for indigenous plant aesthetics, and concern for bio-diversity. This paper explores and delineates the legal environment for the practice of landscape architecture in Utah. The national, state, and local (city and county), codes that apply to landscape architecture and the related professions of architecture, engineering, and land surveying are documented, as is pertinent case law. Figures allow comparisons to be made between the various government levels to demonstrate contradictions and congruencies, as well as the clarity of the ordinances. Major findings include significant differences among the city and county regulations of landscape architecture and the related professions, and weaknesses in the state law for landscape architecture. Future Water Demand In Cache Valley, Utah, Chris C. Saunders

The present investigation examined the current water demand characteristics and the future water demand of Cache Valley, Utah for the time period of 1990-2010. The demand attributable to agriculture and seven nonagricultural economics sectors was determined and forecasts were performed based on those demand values.

Linear regression, extrapolation, and alternative futures forecasting methods were applied and the various results compared against each other. Three different scenarios were calculated for residential demand to represent different sources and composition of demand information. It was determined that consideration of water demand data excluding Logan City provided the best statistical description of water demand. …

This is achieved by comparing the supply and demand of facilities for the most popular activities in order to determine where there are deficiencies. Once these priorities have been determined, the problem of where the facilities to meet these priorities should be located is discussed. This study had two goals: first, to establish a need to use native plant materials for planting and revegetation of highway right of ways in Utah; and secondly, to develop a list of potential native plants suitable for highway planting in Utah.

Throughout the history of traditional land use planning, justification for allocating a land use for a particular area has been accomplished generally in a debilitated fashion. For example, decisions have generally been arrived at by (1) political process--incorporating fringe areas into present land use patterns, or (2) short-term revenue producers are given a land use change from a tax base incentive, or (3) revelations implemented, or other subjective justifications. During 1973 a series of land use planning workshops for local officials and interested citizens was held in the multi-county planning districts of the state of Utah. The workshops were based on a planning process which had been used in Wasatch County, Utah, to develop the Heber Valley Plan. The emphasis of this process and of the workshops was the involvement of the citizens of the community in the planning process and the use of natural resource information as an additional basis for making planning decisions.

Utah Lake, located near Provo, Utah, is a lake of relatively low recreational development. There are certain inherent conditions that contribute to this situation. Four of them are, water level fluctuation, pollution, turbidity and the close proximity of other recreation sites of possible high desirability.
