The collection consists of materials from Robert L. Day and Sidney L. Day’s education and professional lives as architects in Huntington, West Virginia in the early to mid-twentieth century, with the majority of the collection relating to their professional careers. Dates for the materials range from 1894 to 2009 with the bulk of materials created between 1910 and 1960. Multiple material formats are found within the collection. Formats include paper documents such as business correspondence and project estimates, industry tools and instruments, industry catalogs, clippings, and brochures, architectural blueprints, architectural renderings, and educational certificates, with blueprints and renderings consisting of …

China’s rapid development has altered the city’s landscape on a massive scale, continually eroding the delicate urban tissue of old Beijing. Such dramatic changes have forced an aging architecture to rely on chaotic, spontaneous renovations to survive the ever-changing neighborhood. In addition, poor standards of hygiene have turned unique living space and potential thriving communities into a serious urban problem. Hutongs are gradually becoming the local inhabitants’ dumpster and the haven for the wealthy. Spans Across Time: Compliance Of Historic Maine Coastal Bridges With Modern Geometric Design Standards, Elizabeth Reynolds

The purpose of this thesis is to study a wide range of historic bridges along the coast of Maine. Three bridges were selected for study: Sewall’s Bridge, Bailey Island Bridge, and Deer Isle-Sedgwick Bridge. The selected bridges exhibit varying historic treatment approaches, material use, structure type, and span length. This thesis establishes the compliance of these bridges with modern geometric standards, as defined by AASHTO (2011), including maximum grade, vertical and horizontal alignment, roadway width, and sidewalk width. Passing sight distance, passenger comfort and general appearance are not be included in this evaluation of geometric design.
