Optimised Retrofit Strategies For Energy Reduction And Comfort In Dwellings For Future Climate Scenario In Southeast England, Bahaa El Dine Abou El Khoudoud
BAU Journal - Creative Sustainable Development
This paper aims to find an optimum retrofit scheme utilising adaptation and mitigation techniques to a Sub-urban English old house, for an inevitable future climate change. It seeks its aims by investigating the energy performance, as well as the summertime comfort of old dwellings in current and future weather predictions. Studies shows that pre-1990 building stock represents one of the least energy-efficient, as these houses were built before the introduction of building envelope directives in building regulation. Specifically, uninsulated semi-detached houses of the inter-war period can potentially be an essential target for retrofits to reach the 2030 carbon emission goal. …

FA Finding Aids
Finding aid only for Folklife Archives Project FA 1225. Student folk studies project titled: “Folk Housing,” which includes survey sheets with brief descriptions of the farm house and out buildings on the W. C. Kelly Farm, near Plano, in Warren County, Kentucky. Sheets may include a brief description of the building, photograph, and informant’s name. Some sheets document things that occurred at the farm such as the annual hog killing and broom making.
City Of Brick: Spatial And Material Explorations In 21st Century Urbanism, William Collins
City Of Brick: Spatial And Material Explorations In 21st Century Urbanism, William Collins
Architecture Thesis Prep
The project I’m proposing, City of Brick: Spatial and Material Explorations in 21st Century Urbanism, will analyze the problem of and propose an alternative to the supertall residential tower in the contemporary city. Th ere is a trend in American cites toward the construction of ‘prestige’ projects, namely, skyscrapers of luxury apartments purchased as investments. Th is phenomenon is well-documented in the spacious floorplans of these towers; for example, 432 Park Avenue in New York City, though it is the tallest residential building in North America, only contains 104 units. My proposal seeks to provide a counter to the ultraluxury …
Field Urbanism: Collective Form And The City, Pt. 3, Ann O'Connell
Field Urbanism: Collective Form And The City, Pt. 3, Ann O'Connell
Architecture Senior Theses
This project employs a tactical approach to the design process. Spatial patterns and local relationships regulate form and program to facilitate these hybrid social constructions. The development of field elements re-organizes in terms of interrelationships and functions, creating infinite possible combinatory logics in the evolution of the neighborhood. These logics negotiate the threshold between figure and field, accommodating programmatic indeterminacy with architectural specificity to thicken and intensify, producing an alternative "collective" urbanism.
