Investigating Bim Applications In Reducing Co2 Emissions In The Built Environment – Uae Context, Rua Ahmed Maali Nov 2023

Investigating Bim Applications In Reducing Co2 Emissions In The Built Environment – Uae Context, Rua Ahmed Maali

Theses

Large amounts of CO2 are released into the atmosphere throughout the life cycle of a building starting from the production of materials and products, in the construction phase of the building itself, in the site setting, the renovations, the later rehabilitation, and up to the final demolition. Hence, this thesis aims to investigate the potential of using Building Information Modeling (BIM) in making informed decisions that can help in reducing CO2 emissions in the life cycle of built environment projects. This study has used a mixed method approach that includes literature review, a case study and semistructured interviews. …

The Current State Of Practice Of Building Information Modeling, Kevin P. Brooks Aug 2023

The Current State Of Practice Of Building Information Modeling, Kevin P. Brooks

Masters Theses

Building Information Modeling (BIM) has become extremely prominent in the construction industry in the past twenty years. It serves as a digital repository that can, when used to its fullest potential, combine all aspects of designing, building, and managing a structure in one place, alongside all the data produced in those processes. The construction industry has to date struggled to increase productivity alongside similar fields, such as the manufacturing industry, though the construction industry generally has far more stakeholders on one project than the manufacturing industry. Further, building designs are becoming more complex while project schedules are becoming tighter. As …

Impact Of Bim On Building Design Quality, Khaled Sadek, Ibtihal El-Bastawissi, Rokia Raslan, Samer Sayary Jan 2020

Impact Of Bim On Building Design Quality, Khaled Sadek, Ibtihal El-Bastawissi, Rokia Raslan, Samer Sayary

BAU Journal - Creative Sustainable Development

During last decades, the aim of new technologies was to develop new information systems to automate manual processes. Large-scale projects in the field of construction industry need a different approach to organize and analyze data creating a database without any duplication or redundancy. Building Information Modeling (BIM) is a teamwork process using advanced technologies to generate data modeling. Based on a literature review, the present research proposes a set of hypotheses that links BIM implementation with the enhancement of information sharing capability (ISC) and collaborative decision capability (CDC) in the construction sector of the building industry. Consequently, it relates the …

Revision Of The Archicad Manual For Cm 115, Emma Wagner Jun 2019

Revision Of The Archicad Manual For Cm 115, Emma Wagner

Construction Management

Each CM 115: Fundamentals of Construction Management section contains a quarter long project, the goal of which is to familiarize the students with a modeling software. More so, the goal of the project is to introduce them to a set of construction documents- how to get started, what is included, what they need to pay attention to as a construction manager, and most importantly, to implement what they learn from their written coursework completed during class. This manual was written to help students complete this assignment to the best of their ability, producing a piece of work that shows they …

Building Information Modeling (Bim) Impact On Construction Performance, David D. John Jan 2018

Building Information Modeling (Bim) Impact On Construction Performance, David D. John

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

This study is designed to address the need for having a measure for Construction Performance on BIM-assisted construction projects. Through this study a new Construction Key Performance Indicator (CKPI) matrix is identified and created by the author. The CKPI could be used to assess BIM-assisted projects. Utilizing a sequential mixed methodology approach, academic and practitioner perspectives are assessed. A qualitative content analysis and quantitative descriptive analysis based on demographics are conducted to establish a better understanding of BIM and Construction Performance. The academic perspective is used to assess the relevance of BIMM and CKPI indicators, and the practitioner perspective is …

Decision Making Processes For Bim Software Selection In The U.S. A.E.C. Industry: Developing A Unified, Streamlined Framework., Richelle Fosu Dec 2017

Decision Making Processes For Bim Software Selection In The U.S. A.E.C. Industry: Developing A Unified, Streamlined Framework., Richelle Fosu

Purdue Polytechnic Doctoral Dissertations

The use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) techniques and tools continues to gain popularity in the Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) industry as more companies in the various sectors are utilizing it in one form or another. In this research, the decision-making process of construction firms with respect to the selection of BIM software for use is investigated. Through one on one interviews and gathered survey responses, a framework mapping out the various paths the exist in the decision-making process are explored. This data is then used to form a framework for BIM software selection in the construction sector of …

Building Information Modeling (Bim): The Untapped Potential For Preservation Documentation And Management, Laura Lee Worrell May 2015

Building Information Modeling (Bim): The Untapped Potential For Preservation Documentation And Management, Laura Lee Worrell

All Theses

The preservation field has few software programs specifically created to store historic and management documentation. Some programs and techniques are utilized in combination to aid in the management and documentation process of historic resources that include, laser scanning, AutoDesk AutoCAD programs, Rhino 3D, photogrammetry, geographic information system, and even Microsoft Excel. This thesis examines the applicability of the Architectural, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) industry's Building Information Modeling (BIM) to create a three dimensional user interface for tracking and storing historic and management documentation. The case study performed for this thesis employs the Nathaniel Russell House owned by the Historic Charleston …

Predicting Building Energy Performance: Leveraging Bim Content For Energy Efficient Buildings, Eddie Villanueva Aquino Sep 2013

Predicting Building Energy Performance: Leveraging Bim Content For Energy Efficient Buildings, Eddie Villanueva Aquino

Master's Theses

Reducing and managing the environmental impacts of building structures has become a priority of building stakeholders and within the architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) community; although, conflicting approaches and methods to combat the issues are present. For example, green building standards are widespread throughout the world; however each one has its own characteristics and consequently its own specific requirements. While all have proven to be effective rating systems and have similar requirements, the distinguishing characteristic that separates them is their treatment of performance and prescriptive metrics. The feature they all severely lack or currently limit is the inclusion of strict …

Bim Applications In Conceptual Design Phase: Exploring The Abilities And Limitations Of Autodesk Revit Architecture Through The Generative Geometric Design Approach, Sara Ben Lashihar Apr 2011

Bim Applications In Conceptual Design Phase: Exploring The Abilities And Limitations Of Autodesk Revit Architecture Through The Generative Geometric Design Approach, Sara Ben Lashihar

Architecture Masters of Science Program: Theses

Autodesk Revit Architecture as one of BIM applications has shown recent improvements in creating complex forms in conceptual design phase. These improvements have been published lately in reports (Autodesk 2010; Autodesk 2009) and books (Krygiel et al. 2010). The presented abilities were introduced within a general scope, and they were not examined in detail with various generative design approaches. The generalization and the ambiguity of these publications lead designers to avoid using Revit in conceptual design phase, and use other 3D modeling softwares that are more compatible with their way of thinking.

This thesis examines the abilities and limitations of …

Implementation Of Building Information Modeling In Architectural Firms In India, Aakanksha Luthra Mar 2010

Implementation Of Building Information Modeling In Architectural Firms In India, Aakanksha Luthra

Purdue Polytechnic Directed Projects

Building Information Modeling (BIM) is an integrated process of generating and managing a building by exploring a digital model before the actual project is constructed and later during its construction, facility operation and maintenance. BIM has been adopted by construction contractors and architects in United States (US) and United Kingdom (UK) to improve the planning and management of construction projects. On the contrary, Indian contractors seem to have made a head-start by using BIM in their projects, but the architects in the nation have still not embraced this new thinking and technology as a part of their way of working. …
