Out Of Sight, Out Of Mind: Analyzing Inhumane Practices In Mississippi’S Correctional Institutions Due To Overcrowding, Understaffing, And Diminished Funding, Ariel A. Williams
Honors Theses
The purpose of this research is to examine the political, social, and economic factors which have led to inhumane conditions in Mississippi’s correctional facilities. Several methods were employed, including a comparison of the historical and current methods of funding, staffing, and rehabilitating prisoners based on literature reviews. State-sponsored reports from various departments and the legislature were analyzed to provide insight into budgetary restrictions and political will to allocate funds. Statistical surveys and data were reviewed to determine how overcrowding and understaffing negatively affect administrative capacity and prisoners’ mental and physical well-being. Ultimately, it may be concluded that Mississippi has high …
Funding Sustainable And Humanitarian Architectural Projects, Joslyn R. Olsen
Funding Sustainable And Humanitarian Architectural Projects, Joslyn R. Olsen
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
The purpose of this project is to identify sources of funding for sustainable building projects and create a catalog of the findings. This study targeted the nonprofit, humanitarian, and private organization sectors with the goal to encourage subsequent projects that may positively impact the quality of life for people in need.
It has been predicted that in the next 25 years 75% of America's built environment will be either new or renovated. The downside is that new buildings cause substantial ecological damage due to the extraction of materials and account for as much as 40% of all greenhouse gases. As …
The Fundability And Marketability Of Green Buildings At Public Universities: Transcending The Funding Paradigm At Cal Poly, Eileen E. Joseph
The Fundability And Marketability Of Green Buildings At Public Universities: Transcending The Funding Paradigm At Cal Poly, Eileen E. Joseph
Master's Theses
While in recent years Cal Poly has moved in the direction of sustainable building, my research indicates that where other CSU’s have succeeded, Cal Poly has been challenged in developing the type of green buildings that would truly make new construction projects more sustainable. The most commonly cited barriers are cost and lack of funding. The outcome however (as evidenced by other CSU’s) is not just driven by the state’s capital outlay process that has historically supported new construction on CSU campuses. It is determined by the priorities, perceptions and values that have influenced Cal Poly’s decision makers and driven …
A Comparative Review Of Wetland Mitigation Practices: Monitoring, Maintaining, And Funding Mitigated Wetlands, Giselle Marie Groshart
A Comparative Review Of Wetland Mitigation Practices: Monitoring, Maintaining, And Funding Mitigated Wetlands, Giselle Marie Groshart
All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023
The objective of this project was to examine alternatives for monitoring, maintaining and funding of mitigated wetlands, as part of a larger project on wetland mitigation strategies. Research methods included a literature review, questionnaire, and telephone survey to determine current wetland mitigation practices. A variety of methods and techniques are presented, each with varying application for incorporation into a specific wetland mitigation strategy. Key components that came out of this study are the importance of maintaining flexibility, referring to project objectives, and planning throughout the process.
Review And Recommendations Regarding Available Funding Sources For Moab City Development, Kuo Kwang Chang
Review And Recommendations Regarding Available Funding Sources For Moab City Development, Kuo Kwang Chang
All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023
On April 28, 1986 a proposal was presented to the Grand County Commission by Professors Toth and Nicholson. The proposal was an offer to assist the Moab/Grand County area in their efforts to focus on community revitalization, planning and economic development. The LAEP Field Service Program was to provide these services. Given the favorable responses of the commissioners, the city council members, and other community leaders, the "Moab Project" was established as a major long-term commitment for the Environmental Field Service Program. This study continues the "Moab project" by examining the feasibility of funding sources for the implementation of plan …
