This study outlines work completed as a part of the CRP 463 senior capstone class outlining a new, comprehensive approach to active transportation on the Cal Poly campus. Led by Dr. William Riggs the project assessed the current conditions, identified opportunities and constraints and then developed conceptual options for a campus active transportation plan. In addition to this process the plan involved completion of a draft Bicycle Friendly University application for the Cal Poly campus (included as a supplemental file) and envisioned conceptual design options for various locations on the campus. The Cal Poly Climate Action Plan (PolyCAP) is designed to achieve the California State University (CSU) Chancellor’s mandate to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to 1990 levels by 2020 and 80% below 1990 levels by 2040 (CSU, 2014). California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo (Cal Poly) Facility Management and Development (FM&D) and the City and Regional Planning (CRP) Senior Community Planning Laboratory developed the PolyCAP during the Fall 2015 and Winter 2016 quarters, with editing and refinement in subsequent quarters.
