Food For Function Pt. 3, Ryan Desilva

Architecture Senior Theses

This thesis proposes to develop and apply sustainable energy strategies driven by the needs of yet commercial kitchens within the context of adaptive re-use of buildings. Spatializing systems within the framework of building envelopes will minimize energy usage, promote smarter holistic building design; but most importantly, teach culinary students sustainable strategies related to the growth, use and reuse of food as it pertains to the consumption and production of energy.

Thickening: A 21st Century Approach For Resilience In Infrastructure, Marco Antonio Ravini Dec 2014

Thickening: A 21st Century Approach For Resilience In Infrastructure, Marco Antonio Ravini

Architecture Thesis Prep

Infrastructure should be designed for higher RESILIENCE, not permanence. Rather than over-engineer to resist the inevitable failure of individual components, the next generation of public infrastructure needs to exceed its technical specifications and seek opportunistic hybridity between systems. In doing so, new possibilities for multi-layered use/outputs emerge which contribute to a more productive and resilient infrastructural lifespan.

59th Street Bridge Museum And Market, Marciano Martin

School of Architecture - All Scholarship

This thesis is to serve as an investigation and response into the architectural issue of scale juxtaposition. In this case the condition which occurs is the result of a modern feat of engineering at one scale, disrupting and imposing itself onto an urban and historical context which is at a more intimate scale. Consequently, there is a loss of identity or spatial relationships in the urban context, which may have existed prior to this modern intervention. It is my goal to take advantage and develop a response to these disparate scales and their images. It is also the opportunity for …

Modular Measurement In 1971, Robert S. Van Keuren Jun 1971

Modular Measurement In 1971, Robert S. Van Keuren

School of Architecture - All Scholarship

Van Keuren is concerned with making all building components fit each other so that they can be joined at the site of construction with a minimum of cutting and fitting, as well as making it possible to dimension all building plans to incorporate materials conforming to the discussed modular measure.
