Background Children spend a significant portion of their days in sedentary behavior (SB) and on average fail to engage in adequate physical activity (PA). The school built environment may influence SB and PA, but research is limited. This natural experiment evaluated whether an elementary school designed to promote movement impacted students' school-time SB and PA.

Methods Accelerometers measured SB and PA at pre and post time-points in an intervention group who moved to the new school (n = 21) and in a comparison group experiencing no school environmental change (n = 20). Difference-in-difference (DD) analysis examined SB and PA outcomes …

CLIENT: UNION PACIFIC RAILROAD, OMAHA.
This rail-freight giant consolidated nine locations at a 1.3 million-square-foot headquarters. Images of locomotives and boxcars add a dose of excitement for train buffs.

HARNESSING THE RAW POWER OF THE DIESEL LOCOMOTIVE and translating it into a design concept, the Union Pacific Railroad’s new headquarters in downtown Omaha alludes to the history and present of this freight giant in ways both large and small. Note, for instance, how the rows of interior office windows offer glimpses into private …

What an influence my education has had on me! I don’t mean just the subjects. Certainly that was why I went to school. To learn about architecture. To learn to design. To make an impact on the world we live in. I received an excellent education. I left school prepared to enter the professional world, and build upon my abilities with each experience in each firm. A group of lifelong friends bolstered my progress, a built-in support from those who know why we put in the late nights, know the pressure of a deadline, and the exhilaration of meeting it …
