Cadmium In Forest Ecosystems Around Lead Smelters In Missouri, Nord L. Gale, Bobby G. Wixson
Cadmium In Forest Ecosystems Around Lead Smelters In Missouri, Nord L. Gale, Bobby G. Wixson
Biological Sciences Faculty Research & Creative Works
The development of Missouri's new lead belt within the past decade has provided an excellent opportunity to study the dissemination and effects of heavy metals in a deciduous forest ecosystem. Primary lead smelters, within the new lead belt have been identified as potential sources of cadmium as well as lead, zinc, and copper. Sintering and blast furnace operations tend to produce significant quantities of small particulates highly enriched in cadmium and other heavy metals. At one smelter, samples of stack particulate emissions indicate that as much as 0.21 lb of cadmium may be released to the atmosphere per hour. This …

Dickey-Lincoln School Lakes, Maine, Hydro-Power Decision, October 27, 1978, James B. Longley
Dickey-Lincoln School Lakes Project
The Dickey-Lincoln School Project would consist of two earthfill structures designed to produce peaking and modest intermediate load power from the St. John River The larger of the two dams, the Dickey Dam, would be located immediately above the confluence of the Allagash and St. John Rivers. The Lincoln School Dam would also be located on the Upper St. John River, eleven miles downstream from the Dickey Dam. The Dickey Dam would have a total length of 10,600 feet and a maximum height of 335 feet. The Lincoln School Dam is considerably smaller and would be 1,600 feet long and …

Dickey-Lincoln School Lakes Project Transmission Studies Environmental Impact Statement: Appendix B: Alternative Power Transmission Corridors, United States Department Of Energy, United States Department Of The Interior
Dickey-Lincoln School Lakes Project
This report identifies alternative corridors of land within which transmission lines could be routed and details various impacts on the environment which would be associated with introduction of transmission facilities. Many alternative corridor locations were identified (see Figure 1-1). Identification of these alternative transmission corridors was a complex process, since the number of potential corridors capable of connecting the various substations was myriad; the 'least desirable' potential corridors, i.e., those where transmission facilities might have entailed severest impacts on the environment, had to be eliminated from consideration before alternative corridors could be delineated. Identified alternative corridor locations were subsequently evaluated …

Dickey-Lincoln School Lakes Project At Dickey, Maine : Draft Environmental Impact Statement, New England Division, United States Army Engineer Division
Dickey-Lincoln School Lakes Project
This draft EIS address the impacts of the dams and appurtenant structures. The marketing and transmission of power from Federal projects are the statutory responsibility of the Department of the Interior. Accordingly, they are conducting transmission line studies in the preparation of a draft EIS. The draft EIS for transmission line and marketing is scheduled to be submitted to the Council on Environmental Quality in February 1978. Both drafts will be combined and submitted as a Final Environmental Impact Statement in August 1978.

Short Range Development Plan 1974-1979, Jacksonville Area Planning Board
Arthur N. Sollee, Sr. Textual Materials
A five year Short Range Development Plan was prepared simultaneously with and as the basis for Jacksonville's Capital Outlay Program (COP). Background studies for the Plan included land use and structural surveys, population and dwelling unit projections, zoning change and site plan approval trends, land use assignment criteria, and environmental and capital improvement needs criteria. A land use plan adequate to serve projected growth was prepared. The Transportation Plan reflects the latest transportation studies for the City including proposals for a fixed guide way, express bus and local bus systems. All additional community facility and utility needs for projected 1980 …
Evaluating The Membrane Fecal Coliform Test By Using Escherichia Coli As The Indicator Organism, James B. Hufham
Evaluating The Membrane Fecal Coliform Test By Using Escherichia Coli As The Indicator Organism, James B. Hufham
Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works
The fecal coliform membrane filter method (MFC) currently used in water pollution analysis was evaluated by using two strains of E. coli, a known fecal coliform, as th indicator organism. A large relative error in the results obtained with this method was found to be dependent upon the brand of membrane filter employed, the medium, and the temperature of incubation. MFC densities varied between 10 and 60% of the densities determined by means of total bacteria counts and total coliform counts performed at 35°C. Due to the large relative error encountered, the MFC method cannot be recommended as an analytical …

Legendre Coefficients For Series Solution Of The Orientation Distribution Function For Ellipsoidal Macromolecules In Two-Dimensional Laminar Flow, Myrne R. Riley
Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works
The double refraction and viscosity of a suspension of asymmetrical colloidal particles subject to continuous laminar flow vary with the orientation distribution of the suspended particles produced by the shearing field and Brownian motion. Recursion formulas are developed for the Legendre coefficients of the series solution of the orientation distribution function for a suspension subject to two-dimensional laminar flow, thus, extending the works of Peterlin, Wayland, and Scheraga. © 1973.

Open-Channel Profiles By Newton's Iteration Technique, D. L. Fread, Terence E. Harbaugh
Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works
Computation of surface profiles for steady gradually varied flow can be accomplished by use of Newton's Iteration Technique. The magnitude of error is controlled and the profile depth can be conveniently calculated at selected distances upstream or downstream from a control point. A Fortran IV program is provided for utilizing the technique in a trapezoidal channel. © 1971.

Sufficiency Conditions For Constrained Optima, Ju-Chang Huang, Robert M. Wellek
Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works
Sufficiency conditions for constrained optimization problems were derived by the use of constrained second total derivatives. The results are in a simpler form than the Schechter and Beveridge relation. The sufficiency conditions of Phipps were corrected. © 1971, American Chemical Society. All rights reserved.

Accounts and Data
This is a study that considers both interregional technological variations and interregional product mix variations. Product mix variations are estimated more accurately by using more disaggregated construction subindustries and by improving the accuracy of the state output totals used as weights in estimating product mix variations.
Urban Geology—A Need And A Challenge, William J. Wayne
Urban Geology—A Need And A Challenge, William J. Wayne
Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences: Faculty Publications
Urban land uses are rapidly converting open land into intensively used land. Generally, in planning those uses, a comprehensive study has included everything except an evaluation of the land in three dimensions. Geologists are eminently well equipped to supply the missing data, but they must also be aware of the needs of the urban community and the kinds of information needed by planners if they are to write reports usable by planners. Urban and environmental geology is a newly expanding field in the use of geologic data to help solve some urban problems in the planning stage. It is likely …
