Evaluating Long-Range Transportation Plans For Mainstreaming Of Climate Adaptation Among Virginia Mpos, Sebastian L. Shetty
Evaluating Long-Range Transportation Plans For Mainstreaming Of Climate Adaptation Among Virginia Mpos, Sebastian L. Shetty
Theses and Dissertations
Despite the strides made towards addressing climate change through greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction strategies, it has become increasingly apparent that attempting to mitigate the crisis in such a manner alone is insufficient. This thesis joins a growing body of research on how our societies must adapt to a changing climate, contributing more evidence on common barriers to adaptation and how they might be overcome. Through an attempt to evaluate the progress made towards mainstreaming, or integrating, climate change concerns into five Virginia MPOs’ long-range transportation plans (LRTPs), this study provides support for prior hypotheses around the potential for MPOs …
Exploring The Effects Of Socio-Demographic And Built Environmental Factors On The Public Adoption Of Shared And Private Autonomous Vehicles : A Case Study Of Dallas-Fort Worth Metropolitan Area, Hamid Hajjafari
Planning Dissertations
Although the self-driving technology promises to solve several urban issues, the deployment of the autonomous vehicles (AV) is an evolutionary process that depends on different factors. One of these factors is the public adoption of AVs that plays a crucial role in the deployment of this technology by controlling the level of market penetration. By analyzing the cross-national survey studies on AVs acceptance, the author finds that the rate of AVs adoption in America is considerably lower than other developed countries. Although some studies have focused on the AVs adoption in the US and the factors that affect it, there …
The Mass Mobility Of America: A Multimodal Guide, Christian Carroll
The Mass Mobility Of America: A Multimodal Guide, Christian Carroll
Honors Projects
America has a problem-and its root is mobility. With the world everchanging at the hands of technology and social media, other forms of once well-revered technology, such as the combustible engine and coal-powered locomotives, are now at a crossroads. The automobile still dominates the transportation landscape-this is seen through city layouts that have promoted sedentary lifestyles, an increase in infrastructure costs, and a rise in carbon dioxide emissions. All three of these issues are part of a bigger problem in modern society- a lack of affordable and reliable healthcare, a crumbling American transportation infrastructure, and a world facing issues of …
Phasing-Out Fossil Fuel Subsidies In Venezuela: A Transportation Planning Perspective, Mariana E. Marmol
Phasing-Out Fossil Fuel Subsidies In Venezuela: A Transportation Planning Perspective, Mariana E. Marmol
University of New Orleans Theses and Dissertations
This research examines the feasibility of a gasoline and diesel consumer subsidy phase-out in Venezuela from a transportation planning perspective. It surveys the literature and discusses case studies from Iran, Brazil, and Bolivia in order to identify the lessons that Venezuela can learn from these countries’ successes and mistakes. It examines how strengthening and investing in the public transportation system can be used as a means to gain public support for the reform. I discuss the current political, social, and economic conditions that make a fossil-fuel subsidy reform difficult, and offer suggestions from a transportation planner’s perspective on how the …

Accessibility In Metropolitan Transportation Planning : Visualizing A Gis-Based Measure For Collaborative Planning, Aditi Sarkar
Accessibility In Metropolitan Transportation Planning : Visualizing A Gis-Based Measure For Collaborative Planning, Aditi Sarkar
Dissertations
Passed by the US Congress in 1995, the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU), requires Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs) to further the trend of collaboration by employing visualization techniques for Transportation Improvement Programs (TIPs). In the first part of this two-part research, three New Jersey MPOs are investigated to understand how accessibility is considered by their organizations, how TIPs are evaluated, and how collaborative planning and visualization techniques are used to evaluate TIPs. In the second part of this study, a small segment of a MPO's jurisdiction is selected to develop a visualization of …

Transportation Planning: A Description, Analysis, And Critique Of The Logan Urbanized Area's Long Range Transportation Plan, Myq Larson
Undergraduate Honors Capstone Projects
On January 21, 1997, a public meeting was held to obtain comment on a draft version of a document entitled the Cache Metropolitan Area Transportation Plan. The document was prepared to address the transportation needs of the Logan Urbanized Area for the next twenty years. Since work began on the document in April 1996, it had undergone three stages in the form of working papers, which had been reviewed by several committees and published for public comment over the course of its development. The document was being developed under contract for the Cache Metropolitan Planning Organization by Leigh, Scott, …
