Institute for Student Learning Assessment
This poster will illustrate the student engaged experience utilized by Kansas State University for its Multicultural Student Center. It will delineate the campus "community" partnership and the empowerment process initiated by the multicultural student organizations that led to the preliminary building design and fundraising strategies by the University. It will also address how multiple communities in a university can engage in a creative, collaborative process that not only fosters inclusion but also student learning. Ultimately, it shows how student collaboration with University Administration can result in both intended and unexpected outcomes for all involved, especially impacts for beyond stated expectations.
Designing Sustainable Communities For Automated Transit Networks, Shannon S. Mcdonald
Designing Sustainable Communities For Automated Transit Networks, Shannon S. Mcdonald
ASA Multidisciplinary Research Symposium
Automated Transit Networks have the potential of changing the design of communities. Transportation is one of the key aspects for structuring our built environment. Now that Automated Transit Networks are being re-examined, early studies integrating them into the built environment can provide insight into their potential applications.

Sounds Of The City: The Complete Musical Story, Julie Marie Davenport
EURēCA: Exhibition of Undergraduate Research and Creative Achievement
By using a barren urban site and reworking part of the existing fabric of downtown, this project turns part of Jackson Avenue in downtown Knoxville into a vibrant music center and a concentration of creativity. Bringing all parts of the music industry to one building, this project provides a single place for musicians to gather, learn, create, and perform in order to achieve success in the music industry. This project began with the concept of revitalizing the Jackson Avenue area and extending the downtown to increase activity in this area. Much of Knoxville revolves around music, and people will be …

Compression Testing And Failure Modes Of Steel-Concrete Composite (Sc) Structures For Nuclear Containment, Patrick Michael Wanamaker, Amit H. Varma
Compression Testing And Failure Modes Of Steel-Concrete Composite (Sc) Structures For Nuclear Containment, Patrick Michael Wanamaker, Amit H. Varma
The Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) Symposium
Although being able to provide much cleaner power than burning coal and other fossil fuels, nuclear power plants are still a tough sell to the general public due to their history of being spontaneously dangerous. The containment structures surrounding these nuclear plants, however, can play a huge role in reducing the risks associated with them. Relatively new designs for these containment assemblies, known as SC (steel-concrete composite) structures, aim to increase the strength and durability of the containment facilities while keeping costs down. By varying the spacing between shear studs, the ratio of concrete to steel, and the ratio of …
Trails As Transportation, Pete Fritz
Trails As Transportation, Pete Fritz
Purdue Road School
With populations concentrating in urban areas and the push for healthier living, biking and walking to work and other destinations are becoming more acceptable in the United States. With the ever-expanding network of trails in Indiana, the public is realizing the benefit of utilizing trails for daily commuting. This session will show what it takes for a community to embrace non-motorized commuters. We’ll also discuss the health and financial benefits of leaving your vehicle at home. Finally, we’ll get a statewide trails update from the Department of Natural Resources.
