This examines active transportation as it relates to accessibility, opportunity, and ultimately equity for residents in disadvantaged communities in the City of Arlington, Texas. Adding to the growing discussion and research surrounding active transportation, the accessibility measures presented contribute an approach to identifying disadvantaged communities in a city and quantifying the opportunities accessible by foot and bike in these communities. The research utilized a replicable index for identifying disadvantaged neighborhoods and a method for quantifying the number of opportunities that can be accessible when pedestrian and bicycle facilities are present.
