Wonderedge, Grace E. Butler
Oswald Research and Creativity Competition
In the city of Medellín, Colombia, Library Parks were formed as a way of promoting inclusive urbanism. A total of ten parks were produced, one being Biblioteca España. Placed on a steep slope, Biblioteca España had structural failure that caused its collapse. WonderEdge was created as a solution for the replacement of Biblioteca España.
Medellín is known as the “City of Eternal Spring” with an average temperature of 70 degrees occuring year-round. Using this knowledge, WonderEdge was formed to promote the outdoor experience and with that, the view that is produced by the slope. WonderEdge is about the experience that …

The country has been in economic recovery since the Great Recession in 2007. Home prices have since stabilized after the mortgage and foreclosure crisis that followed the Recession. In late 2017, the federal government passed the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, leading to a surge in corporate earnings. As of the time of this writing, major stock indicators are at all-time highs, and interest rates are low. But corporate indicators and interest rates do not paint the entire picture. Most of the economic recovery is in affluent, predominately white parts of the country, while distressed areas inhabited by people of …

Ampthill Neighborhood Market Analysis & Community Strengthening Plan, Claude P. Armstrong
Master of Urban and Regional Planning Capstone Projects
This is a Strengthening Plan in support of a future commercial corridor development in the Ampthill Neighborhood of Chesterfield County. It is a part of a larger strategy along Jefferson Davis Highway to strengthen ties between neighborhoods and businesses. The Plan encourages economic and community development to create a welcoming destination. A foundation for economic development results and a community road map to assist in navigating discussions, leveraging assets and upgrading transportation infrastructure. This traditionally working-class neighborhood south of Richmond has experienced major demographic change. For others to venture into the area and “get to know it”, Ampthill may …

Comprehensive Rezonings, Sara C. Bronin
Comprehensive Rezonings, Sara C. Bronin
Cornell Law Faculty Publications
Of all powers given to local governments, the power to zone is one of the most significant. Zoning dictates everything that gets built in a locality—and thus effectively dictates all of the key activities that take place within it. Nationwide, most zoning codes were adopted in the first half of the twentieth century. Many, including the zoning codes of New York City and Chicago, were significantly revised in the 1960s. While these codes have been revised piecemeal, just a few American cities have undergone a comprehensive revision: replacing the old code with a completely new one.
A comprehensive rezoning can …
