I am interested in orchestrating instances of potentiality or concrete possibilities that proposes the futurity of play through means of touch, activation, assembly, and interaction within art spaces. The installation mentioned is composed of found objects and repurposed materials that address themes of place, memory, object-ness, and the archive, through gestural means of poetics and map making. It is an invitation to create new logics and find moments of empathy, connectivity, and hopes for a collective.

In his global art practice, French artist JR transforms overlooked communities into valued canvases. With an approach rooted in collaboration, JR’s large-scale public photographic installations integrate the built environment into a visual experience of human life.

In October, 2019, JR and his team entered the maximum security prison in Tehachapi, California to embark on a new collaborative project: “Tehachapi.” This paper explores the impact of “Tehachapi” as it extends beyond the physical photograph wheat-pasted on the floor of the prison’s courtyard to touch on issues of humanity, power and accessibility. This case study introduces an arts camp methodology of engaging communities in identifying their key cultural heritage features, thus serving as a meta study. It presents original research based on field studies on the climate-vulnerable Caribbean island of Barbuda during 2017 and 2018. Its Valued Cultural Elements survey, enabling precise identification of key tangible and intangible art forms and biocultural practices, may serve as a basis for further studies. The objectives of this research are to determine the factors associated with the minimum, maximum, and average thermal emittance temperatures of wall murals in Richmond, Virginia, and make recommendations for color and location of wall murals. Data for 17 parameters were collected for 64 art murals in downtown Richmond, VA from 28 June 2018 – 19 July 2018. Date, time, solar exposure duration, solar elevation, latitude, longitude, air temperature (C), lux, color, solar cardinal minutes, cardinal direction, minimum, maximum, and average surface thermal emittance temperatures of mural face were recorded for each mural. I have long considered themes of the body. Drawing on my knowledge as a fashion designer, I bring materials and hardware from the fashion industry into my artwork transforming and rendering them non-functional. My sculptures relate to stories of isolation, separation, and confinement. The following pages will analyze how the United States penal system controls, constrains and restricts the body through physical and psychological wounds. Furthermore, they will examine how the Catholic Church controls people’s minds and behavior through a ritualistic belief system.

After-Ozymandias examines the visual rhetoric of American patriotism through its many symbols, including flags and monuments. My thesis project consists of photographs of empty plinths, objects, products and archival materials. Countless relics remain today memorializing leaders and empires that inevitably declined, from antiquity to modern times. Looking back at distant history feels like a luxury, though: the question for our time in America is whether we have the strength of mind as a society to scrutinize our history, warts and all.

These photographs were taken as part of a larger research project tracing Mobutu Sese Seko’s construction projects in Kinshasa in the late 1960s and 1970s. The sites were part of a drive initially taking place under Mobutu’s cultural policy of retour à l’authenticité, instigated in 1967 as a means of taking recourse in pre-colonial Congolese traditions. This gave rise to a wide variety of architectural styles, adorned by artworks largely commissioned from a group called the avant-gardists. The selection of photos seen here presents glimpses of some of the sites and their artworks.

The following creative works aspire to construct landscapes that carry multiple, rather than singular, narratives as a means to explore Australia’s extensive landscape tradition. With the benefit of hindsight, the appropriated imagery of Glover and Heysen combine hybrid frameworks of Australian landscape at the time of colonisation and federation; through these pictures neither the colonial or Indigenous narrative is given precedent, alternatively numerous stories are overlayed as a method to communicate past and present entanglements within Australian space.

This paper provides an overview of both practical and esoteric elements that inform the labyrinth design process and touches on the physiological and psychological effects of meditative walking. In addition to new installations, some other outcomes that have resulted from this research include an interactive online map of over 200 labyrinths in New England and two simple formulas for accurately calculating the path length of both 3- and 7-circuit Classical labyrinths.

To “live with the senses.” Hugo Kükelhaus (1900-1984) cultivated a philosophy of being that included intuition and feeling. “It is not the brain that thinks, but the human that experiences.” Hugo Kükelhaus’ most enduring legacy are two theoretically and experimentally accomplished investigations of sense processes and the phenomenology of perception: the Allbedeut¬–means everything–infant toys (1930) and production of first set of 32 “play” stations for the Expo’67 in Montreal. Kükelhaus’ interest in psycho-physiological substratum of learning, the erfahrbar (that which can become known through experience), led him to experimental investigations into creative consciousness and sense-based learning.
