Computational Modeling & Simulation Engineering Faculty Publications
Interoperability across Modeling and Simulation (M&S) and Command and Control (C2) systems continues to be a significant problem for today's warfighters. M&S is well-established in military training, but it can be a valuable asset for planning and mission rehearsal if M&S and C2 systems were able to exchange information, plans, and orders more effectively. To better support the warfighter with M&S based capabilities, an open standards-based framework is needed that establishes operational and technical coherence between C2 and M&S systems.

La Bibliotheca Alexandrina. Antecedentes, Origen, Historia Y Resurgimiento, Emilia Currás

Probabilistic Road Map Sampling Strategies For Multi-Robot Motion Planning, Christopher M. Clark
Probabilistic Road Map Sampling Strategies For Multi-Robot Motion Planning, Christopher M. Clark
Computer Science and Software Engineering
This paper presents a Probabilistic Road Map (PRM) motion planning algorithm to be queried within Dynamic Robot Networks—a multi-robot coordination platform for robots operating with limited sensing and inter-robot communication. First, the Dynamic Robot Networks (DRN) coordination platform is introduced that facilitates centralized robot coordination across ad hoc networks, allowing safe navigation in dynamic, unknown environments. As robots move about their environment, they dynamically form communication networks. Within these networks, robots can share local sensing information and coordinate the actions of all robots in the network. Second, a fast single-query Probabilistic Road Map (PRM) to be called within the DRN …

Delayed Neuropathy Due To Organophosphate Intoxication: A Casereport, Chiao-Chien Chen, Lin-Fen Hsieh
Rehabilitation Practice and Science
Organophosphates (OP) are inhibitors of acetylcholinesterase. OP intoxication results in an accumulation of acetylcholine. Clinical signs and symptoms of acute OP poisoning include salivation, incontinence, vomiting, muscle weakness, hypertension, palpitation, restlessness, headache, drowsiness, confusion and seizure. After the acute stage of OP intoxication some patients recover fully, but others have neurologic sequelae, including central and peripheral neuropathy. Individuals with milder cases may recover fully within several months; however, more severe cases may result in persistent sequelae.A 20-year old woman attempted suicide by drinking organophosphate pesticide in 1995. Although emergency and acute medical treatments saved her life, she developed delayed neuropathy, …

Rehabilitation Practice and Science
Immobilization following spinal cord injury (SCI) is a condition known to be associated with osteoporosis, which leads to increased risk of fractures. The aim of this study was to survey the incidence of bony fractures and its associated factors among chronic SCI patients in southern Taiwan. We recruited 194 patients, including 153 men and 41 women. Their mean age was 46 years old. The average duration of SCI was 12 years. There were 110 paraplegics (56.7%) and 84 tetraplegics (43.3%). Fractures after SCI were noted in 16 of the 194 patients (8.2%). There were no significant differences in age, sex, …

Ultrasonography Diagnosis Of A Neglected Femoral Fracture In A Child: A Casereport, Yi-Chia Yeh, Shu-Min Chen, Ta-Shen Kuan, Chii-Jeng Lin
Rehabilitation Practice and Science
Ultrasonography is sensitive and reliable for detecting pediatric fractures, including incomplete fractures, clavicle fractures, and fractures in unossified bones. Ultrasonography is also a good imaging modality for pediatric bone healing.A 1-year-5-month-old boy suffered from a painful mass on the left thigh due to a traction injury. His parents brought him to the emergency room, and the initial impression was soft tissue injury. The patient presented with disabling pain and was unable to walk for a few days following the injury. Ultrasonography was scheduled and revealed cortical disruption of the femoral shaft with irregular hyperechoic materials over the area of cortical …

Patterns Of Democratization And State Controlled Pluralism: Is Egypt Going Anywhere?, Ahmed Dardir
Patterns Of Democratization And State Controlled Pluralism: Is Egypt Going Anywhere?, Ahmed Dardir
The Undergraduate Research Journal
Free elections, reform of the constitution, reform initiatives, political prisons, emergency law: the usual ingredients of the Egyptian political scene. Does all this lead to a process of democratization? While the regime is widening, can democracy work without mass participation? Is democracy a procedure or a nationwide project? Can democratization work under emergency laws? Can democratization work from above? This paper aims to provide an in-depth exploration of these questions.

Egypt’S Opposition Parties: A "Loyal" Opposition, Samy Asfour
Egypt’S Opposition Parties: A "Loyal" Opposition, Samy Asfour
The Undergraduate Research Journal
Opposition parties are often labeled as a loyal opposition rather than competitor, due to their inability to formulate an alternative policy to the government and create a strong popular base. These shortcomings can be traced back to the foundations of the Egyptian multi-party system. This paper attempts to examine the opposition party from another perspective and examines the oppositional New Wafd party in terms of democratic party structure and the degree of popular appeal.

"Kefaya" – An Egyptian Movement For Change, Bahaa Ezzelarab
The Undergraduate Research Journal
KEFAYA is a word Egyptians might get accustomed to in the coming period. Everyone agrees that Reform is desirable and necessary, yet almost everyone disagrees about what should be reformed and how reform should occur. This paper deals more with domestic calls for reform, focusing on Gamal Mubarak as the bet of the Egyptian government and the Egyptian Movement for Change – a.k.a. KEFAYA - as the representative of other reform-seekers. Through comparing them both, the paper will assess which party intends or has better chances of achieving desired levels of reform.

The Egyptian Banking Reform: "Unified Banking Laws", Nabila Al-Ariki, Dalia Ibrahim
The Undergraduate Research Journal
Banking reform is a fundamental branch of economic development that has frequently been used by policy-makers in attempts to stimulate the Egyptian economy. The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) has a major role in improving the performance of the Egyptian Banking sector. In order to achieve its goal, it has had to increase its strength by passing new banking laws in cooperation with the Egyptian government. These laws include reforms in the systems of banking management, eliminating bureaucracy, encouraging transparency, privatization of banks, modernizing the Egyptian payment system, inter-bank transactions, supervising the performance of banks, and achieving a higher degree …
