Minerals used in this study were pyrite (FeS2), chalcopyrite (CuFeS2), molybdenite concentrate, and molybdenite ore. The microorganisms used in this investigation were autotrophic bacteria obtained from the leaching streams of Bingham Canyon, …

The Instability Constant Of The Cobaltous Citrate Complex Ion Using Cobalt-⁶⁰ As A Tracer, Lee T. Cox Aug 1956

The Instability Constant Of The Cobaltous Citrate Complex Ion Using Cobalt-⁶⁰ As A Tracer, Lee T. Cox

Theses and Dissertations

The instability constant of a substance shows the tendency of a substance to dissociate into simple ions. The stability of the substance can be related to stabilities of other substances through the instability constant. Schubert gives a method for the determination of the instability constant which involves measurements of the adsorption of a radiotracer cation on a cation exchange resin. Two different types of resin were employed in this research. It was found that with a resin containing carboxylic acid exchange groups the adsorption of the cobaltous ion changed rapidly with pH but with a resin containing nuclear sulfonic acid …

All Theses

This thesis presents a comprehensive study of muscle flexibility in athletes and non-athletes, male and female, in the George Washington Carver High School of McGregor, Texas.

The writer agrees that it is too much to expect that, in these days of rapid development of specialized content, a single thesis, even a large one, can deal adequately with the total number of physical fitness areas connected with muscle flexibility in voluntary and involuntary flexibility.

"Flexibility and range of movement of the joints are basic to skill in body action.

"It is impossible to state how much flexibility is desirable, principally because …

The Effect Of Automation On Job Opportunities, Tommie Lola Brown

The intense concern of workers with the effect of automation on jobs began as early as 1912 when an article by Robert Johnstone Wheeler, now a resident of Allentown, Pennsylvania, appeared in the Industrial Review magazine.

Showing the number of hand blowers was dropping steadily as more automatic machines were installed in glass bottle manufacturing plants, Wheeler also described the economic effects of this displacement of workers.

"The automatic machine takes no apprentices," he wrote. "It does not eat or wear anything. It has no wife or children to support."

"Who will buy its products in the coming years when …

A Study Of Farm Water Supply And Uses In The Southeast Section Of East Texas, W. L. Singletary

All Theses

Springs, running streams, wells, rivers, and lakes still suffice to furnish us with water, but for years, the writer has been concerned about the indication of a lack of an abundant supply of water on the farms of the southeast section of East Texas. The writer noticed that the majority of the farms do not have watering systems for livestock, irrigation or convenient water locations for crops, nor running water in houses for human use and personal consumption. Observant indications are that unsanitary springs, big creeks, and tanks still serve as sources of the water supply on numerous farms in …

Enriching Or Extending The Classroom Environment By Educational Travel, John Anna Wells

All Theses

The environment of the modern classroom is moving rapidly from a relatively new culture of the classroom to a curriculum which involves cooperative relationships with home and community. It is difficult to determine, operate and maintain a curriculum in a relatively stable era, but the problems are multiplied in a time when changes are so rapid that even the teachers are confused. It is the job of the school, along with other educative agencies, to prepare the children of today to adjust themselves to the changing conditions.

Teachers and curriculum makers have a definite responsibility for attacking problems, both economic …

The desire for distinction and recognition of accomplishment is very human and is expressed in various ways. According to Evans (15:3), one of the most common ways of expressing this desire is through the wearing of clothes. Studies have shown that in normal times, a family of moderate income spends from 12 to 15 percent of its income on clothing. From this total, stated Andrews (1:379, the average twelve-year-old is apportioned approximately 17 percent. Today, after many years of relative insignificance children's clothing has taken an important place in research, and each year the freedom granted the younger generation reaches …

Alexander Pope: Origins Of Personal Literacy Criticisms In Selected Works, Addie Pear Cavil Owens

There is much belief that Alexander Pope did permit his personal feelings to dictate his literary criteria found in his works. Possibly, this called forth the fullness of the power of Alexander Pope as a literary genius of his age. But to be sure that Pope's literary criticisms …

All Theses

When Ernest Hemingway was awarded, for The Old Man and the Sea, the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1954, the members of the board of directors in Stockholm agreed that Hemingway had long been a top contender for the prize. Readers and critics alike, perhaps, had considered many of his works worthy of such honor, and it was not surprising that The Old Man and the Sea garnered that honor. However many have wondered at that unspoken and possibly intangible "something" behind Hemingway's failure to win the prize with previous works. Many suggestions have been made as to the nature …
