Cardiorespiratory Fitness Is Inversely Associated With Clustering Of Metabolic Syndrome Risk Factors: The Ball State Adult Fitness Program Longitudinal Lifestyle Study, Elizabeth Kelley, Mary T. Imboden, Matthew P. Harber, Holmes Finch, Leonard A. Kaminsky, Mitchell H. Whaley

Objective: The focus of this study was the association between the metabolic syndrome (MetSyn) and cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) defined as maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max). Although previous research has shown a relationship between MetSyn and CRF, most studies are based on less objective measures of CRF and different cardiometabolic risk factor thresholds from earlier guidelines.

Universities are increasingly using metrics such as publication and citation counts to measure faculty research productivity and impact, and to compare productivity and impact across departments and institutions. Canadian law schools are facing pressure to adopt similar metrics. In this article the author argues that publication and citation counts are not reliable indicators of research productivity or impact.

The Nebraska Educator: A Student-Led Journal

Estimates indicate that about 70 million children in China have been left behind in their hometowns by one or both parents as their parents migrate to other places for work opportunities. However, the potential impact of parental migration on the emotional well-being of left-behind children is still unclear. The purpose of this study was to examine depression levels in Chinese left-behind children and to identify potential risk factors contributing to depressive symptoms in this population.
