Labor forces continue to decrease in the United States. If the ship repair industry’s leadership does not incorporate knowledge sharing and innovation into business practices, knowledge will be lost resulting in decreasing performance. This was a study to determine if there was a correlation between knowledge management, innovation, and firm performance. Knowledge was found as more influential than innovation in predicting firm performance.

Theatrical improvisation lacks investigation within higher education. The findings from this phenomenological study of seven students from a Mid-­ Atlantic community college lend credibility to other research supporting arts and extracurricular activities and provide insights into what they value in their educational experience. Positive social change can come from providing students with an education that includes fun, creativity, and socialization for a successful future.

Through the lens of environmental psychology and photo voice, this study explores online faculty’s work vs. home environment. Results indicated many participants had previously considered separating work and home and developed methods to maintain separation. This is a preliminary exploration to a larger survey study.

There is a gap in reading comprehension proficiency between English learners and their English-speaking peers. This study examined the strength of three significant predictors of reading comprehension—oral English proficiency, oral reading fluency, and academic vocabulary knowledge. Spending more instructional time on developing students’ skills in the strongest predictor, academic vocabulary knowledge, may reduce the achievement gap.

There is scant literature regarding the psychological effects of intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) treatment experience on quality of life (QOL) for neurological autoimmune disease patients diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, multifocal motor neuropathy, myasthenia gravis, and chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy. IVIG treatment experience predicted QOL in 1 Neuro-QOL subscale; illness intrusiveness mediated 9 of the Neuro-QOL subscales using bias-corrected bootstrapping for statistical significance; and person control did not mediate the relationship between illness intrusiveness and QOL.

Existing student attitudes and beliefs about mathematics often block student learning and deep understanding of mathematical content in the college classroom (e.g. preservice elementary teachers). Changes in pedagogy, classroom participation, and curriculum were infused into two college mathematics classes for preservice teachers and the attitudinal beliefs of these preservice teachers were assessed to measure change after a course intervention.

The incidence and prevalence of food safety practices among food staff working in food establishments in Manitoba is underrepresented and has not been adequately reviewed and researched. Uncertified food staff are at higher risk of not following food safety practices that can cause contamination of food and result in foodborne illness. The purpose of this correlational study was to examine the relationship between employee turnover and destructive leadership behaviors of managers in small and medium enterprise (SME) manufacturing businesses in Warren County, New Jersey. Teen dating violence and bullying are major public health concerns but are preventable. Both dating violence and bullying occur within similar social context and the prevalence of teen dating violence was highest for African American teens as reported on the 2011 Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS). Social learning theory provides a foundation for understanding and changing behavior related to dating violence victimization and bully victimization. The pervasiveness of autism has significantly increased over the past 2 decades with the 2014 Center for Disease Control and Prevention report indicating 1 in 68 children are diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Early intervention is recommended as the most effective treatment approach. Abstract In a large urban district in Ohio, 29.2% of Grade 5, 28.7% of Grade 8, and 45.7% of Grade 10 students passed the state test in science. School district administrators formed a community partnership with local science institutions in order to provide students with hands-on place-based learning experiences intended to improve science academic achievement in PK-Grade 5. The 2015 Review of Social Change at Walden University identifies a number of initiatives that were put in place during 2015 to actualize and support the social change portion of the university mission. The charge to this second working group was to examine the 2012 recommendations and clarify Walden’s position on professional doctorates. Unlike the first effort that addressed differences between professional and academic doctorates, the expectations for this group were to focus on the commonalities in the university’s professional doctorates; set clear and consistent definitions, standards, and requirements for our professional doctorates; and link those programs to employment paths more directly. From the outset, the working group acknowledged that any outcome will be a “living document” that continues to be refined as discussion continues in the university community.

Food policy has a unique role for public, nonprofit, private, and academic stakeholders. Growing food in the city is a challenge worldwide. Food systems can be destroyed by external (weather extremes) and internal (zoning regulations) forces. This study explores urban farms as a secondary food source and their common themes across four sectors. A Northeastern U.S. city was the case study to examine how it implemented its formal urban agriculture program. Cardiometabolic syndrome (CMS) places an individual at a higher risk of stroke and heart failure. The 2013 Behavior Risk Surveillance System survey, the largest national population-based survey, was used for logistic regression modeling. An effect-modifying relationship was found among women between rural residence and CMS.
