The northern part of Clarkston Mountain, in northern Utah and southern Idaho, is located about 23 miles northwest of Logan, Utah. It extends across the Malad Range from Malad Valley on the west to Cache Valley on the east. The mapped area measures 4.8 miles in the north-south direction and 6.8 miles in the east-west direction.

The Brigham Formation of Cambrian age is the oldest exposed stratigraphic unit. It consists mainly of quartzite. This paper evaluates the present status of Utah shooting preserves with special reference to attitudes and characteristics of hunters using and not using the shooting preserves system. Data were gathered primarily by a mail questionnaire survey.

Compared to non-users, shooting preserve users were more frequently raised in a suburban or city area, better educated, and had higher yearly incomes. Shooting preserve users were commonly employed as professionals or proprietors, while non-users were often employed as craftsmen, proprietors, or operators.

Most shooting preserve hunters hunted after the state game bird season was closed, and were generally satisfied with Utah preserves. Most …

The purpose of this paper is to analyze juvenile court data using Markov Chains. A computer program was generalized with a single array orientation for analyzing realizations of a Markov Chain to the k^th order within machine limitations. The data used in this paper were gathered by the Juvenile Court of the State of Utah for administrative purposes and limited to District II. The results from the paper, "Statistical Inference About Markov Chains" by Anderson and Goodman, were applied for testing hypotheses. The paper is divided into five chapters: introduction, statistical background, methodology, analysis and summary, conclusions.

Impact Of The Black-Tailed Jackrabbits (Lepus Californicus) On Vegetation In Curlew Valley, Northern Utah, Mark Westoby

The interrelations of black-tailed jackrabbits and the desert-shrub vegetation on which they were feeding were studied in Curlew Valley, Northern Utah. The vegetation was described as a three-cornered continuum, the corners being types dominated respectively by Artemisia tridentata, Atriplex confertifolia, and Sarcobatus vermiculatus.

Jackrabbit diet was studied by microscopic analysis of plant fragments in stomachs from shot animals. The method was inaccurate, apparently because the ratio of identifiable tissues to all ingested tissues was very low, and varied between plant taxa, and seasonally. This problem seems intractable for desert shrub vegetation.

Five day old dark-grown seedlings of Secale cereale variety "cougar" grown at 20 C were subjected to hardening at 2 C in daily increments from 0 to 7 days, to temperature stress at -5 C for 0, 1, and 3 days, and to recovery at 20 C for 0, 1, and 3 days. Unhardened plants were killed by temperature stress but as the time of hardening increased fewer plants were killed. After 5 days of hardening all plants survived subsequent freezing stress.

Mitochondria were isolated from the plants after they received various combinations of the three temperature treatments. There were …

Primary production was measured on a 9.5 acre Cache Valley, Utah farm pond from July 1971 to July 1972. Polyethylene film tubes, with lids, were used to confine columns of water for determining dissolved oxygen concentration. Once a week, dissolved oxygen samples were taken at sunset, the following sunrise and sunset. Annual primary production was estimated at 1289 grams oxygen per square meter for two of the four stations, and 927 grams oxygen per square meter for the remaining two stations.

The effect of tutorial instruction was studied as it influences number concept development in preschool children. The research was conducted in the Logan and Providence areas of Cache County, Utah, with 24 non-preschool four-year-old children. Twelve of the children were given tutorial experience through the use of children's flannel board stories written by the author. The stories were developed to t each the number concepts of not first or last, second, third, pair, and Medium sized.

The effects of Vitavax fungicide (2,3-dihydro-5-carboxanilido-6-methyl-1,4-oxathiin) on meiotic chromosomes of rye (Secale cereale) and mitotic chromosomes of onion (Allium cepa) and rye were observed.

The principal aberrations recorded in pollen mother cells of rye were: 1-4 univalents at metaphase I; sticky bridges at telophase I; and micronuclei and misshapen nuclei at the quartet stage.

The principal aberrations recorded in root tip mitoses in onion and rye were: chromosome fragmentation, disintegration, clumping, aggregation and inhibition of mitosis.

Constant volume superpressure pillow balloons were flown over a mountain valley downwind from a sharp ridge line. Balloon trajectories revealed and atmospheric soundings confirmed a persistent turbulently mixed adiabatic layer over the valley at approximately ridge top height except in the immediate lee of the ridge where strong vertical motions were observed. Temporary stationarity of the relative mesoscale turbulence was found to exist on a time scale exceeding 4 hours. Power spectrum analysis of component relative velocities showed greater variance in lower wave numbers and anisotropy in mesoscale turbulence. Forty-five subjects were randomly selected for participation in this study, which involved a pretest-posttest control group design. Animals performing on simple fixed-ratio (FR) schedules typically pause after reinforcement delivery. The present study demonstrated systematic control of pause length in multiple fixed ratio schedules by manipulating FR size and reinforcement magnitude. In Experiment I, two adult male rabbits were stabilized on an alternating, two component, multiple FR 10 FR 10 schedule. Different colored lights were correlated with both FR components. Stability was determined and mean pause lengths were calculated as one FR component was increased in size until the schedule was FR 10 FR 50. Direct acid curd was formed by cooling the skimmilk to 4C, acidifying to pH 4.6 with concentrated HCl, and warming by electrical resistance to 32C without agitation. The Kinnikinic Formation of central Idaho is a sedimentary unit consisting principally of orthoquartzite. From its maximum measured thickness of 2285 feet in the central Lemhi Range near Gilmore, Idaho, it thins westward to 376 feet at the type section and southward to 326 feet near Arco, Idaho. Northeast of the Lemhi Range it occurs only as erosional remnants, due to pre-Devonian erosion. Both the lower and upper contacts of the Kinnikinic Formation are disconformable.

Twenty-five piston cores 6 to 12 feet long were obtained from the deepwater sediments of Bear Lake, Utah-Idaho. Analyses of these cores revealed that the deep-water sediments of the lake are divided into two major sequences: a younger sequence rich in carbonate minerals, here called the carbonate sequence, and an older sequence rich in silicate minerals, referred to in this paper as the silt sequence. The carbonate sequence is composed of clay-sized quartz, aragonite, calcite, dolomite, montmorillonite, illite, kaolinite, chlorite, and amorphous material. This dissertation develops a word bank based on a series of well defined filters. The basis of this system is grapheme-phoneme relative frequency control. The word bank is designed to be used in developing reading materials at varied degrees of difficulty.

Four short stories were edited as to their grapheme-phoneme relationships. Reading speed and reading comprehension were measured for each student on these stories. All students read a story in the original form and a story in the filtered version.

No difference in reading comprehension were found, but reading speed was significantly higher on three of four stories.
