In the European musical world, one of the most significant personalities of recent years was Walter Georgii (1887-1967). He was respected not only as one of Germany's most prominent pianist-pedagogues, but also as one of the most authoritative writers in the areas of piano performance and literature. One of Georgii's most important writings was a large work entitled Klaviermusik, the third edition of which appeared in 1956. The book is divided into two parts. Administrative support for elementary school library programs was studied with emphasis upon the awareness, attitude, and actions of the principal, and the working relationship between the principal and the librarian. A survey was conducted in order to determine varying degrees of agreement or disagreement with statements which were indicative of administrative support for school libraries. Questionnaires were sent to one hundred fifty-five principals of schools which were randomly selected, and to one hundred fifty-five librarians of the same schools. The purpose of this study was to determine behavioral changes in Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) participants in East Baton Rouge Parish. The categories studied included: (1) knowledge of nutrition, (2) food purchase, (3) food storage and sanitation, (4) food and meal planning, and (5) food preparation. A stratified sample of five nutrition aides was selected. The aides ranged from limited to exceptional ability to teach. Eighty EFNEP homemakers who had participated in the program for a minimum of six months were included. Sixteen homemakers were selected randomly from each aide's list of homemakers. The study sought the opinions of secondary school teachers toward in-service education in educational media in regard to (1) sex of the teacher; (2) educational degree; (3) years of teaching experience; (4) grade levels taught; (5) major teaching area; (6) undergraduate media preparation; (7) graduate media preparation; and (8) participation of teacher in previous media workshops and programs. Fifty secondary schools from sixteen parishes in Louisiana were randomly selected to participate in the study. A closed questionnaire of sixty-seven items was used, and three hundred fifty-one teachers from thirty-six schools completed the answer sheets. Teachers responded to each statement of …

The purpose of this study was to investigate attitudes toward the disabled in foreign students at Louisiana State University. Four hundred sixty-six students were administered the Attitude Toward Disabled People scale, Form A, and a demographic questionnaire, during the Fall semester of 1982. These students were grouped in five predetermined areas of the world, as follows: Latin America; Africa; the Middle East, except Israel; Europe, Canada, and Israel; and South and East Asia. Industry has long held to the belief that accidents are caused and they can be prevented. To support this belief, industry in the United States has allocated vast resources for accident prevention. The rationale for this allocation of resources rests on the concern for employees' well-being, federal and state regulations, and the profit incentive. The objectives of the study were to determine the characteristics and innovativeness of the smallholders of Sierra Leone, relate this to their knowledge of the location and contacts with the extension agents and to formulate recommendations for achieving self-sufficiency in rice. A total of 102 respondents were queried in this study. Seventy-four upland rice smallholders were selected from an original sample of 1500 which was drawn through a multi-stage cluster sampling technique and the remaining 28 were selected based on subjective criteria. The overall objective of this study was to gather basic information about livestock programs in the Ivory Coast, and to determine factors that may be impeding the successful accomplishment of these programs. One hundred and two livestock producers were interviewed--72 who were members of SODEPRA and 32 who were not. The data from the field study were coded onto computer sheets and transferred to punched cards and percentages and Chi-Square Values were calculated. The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of the "offer versus serve" method on school lunch consumption by students in grades 1-3 when nutrition-related achievement of students was similar. This method allows students to decline two of the five food items. The sample included students in grades 1-3 in two public schools in neighboring parishes, Lafourche and Assumption. The Lafourche Parish school was using the "offer versus serve" method, while the Assumption Parish school was using the traditional method of serving lunch. The Mediational Role Of Social Influence In The Perception Of Exertion., Charles Jeffrey Hardy

Two experiments are reported that investigate the mediational role of social influence in the self-perception of exertion. In Experiment 1, subjects performed three 15 min trials on a cycle ergometer at 25%, 50%, and 75% of VO(,2) max, both in the presence of another performer (a coactor) and alone. The results indicated that subjects reported lower RPEs when performing with another, particularly at the moderate (50%) intensity. In Experiment 2, subjects performed one 15 min trial at 50% of VO(,2) max, both alone and in the presence of another performer (coactor) exhibiting nonverbal "cues" that the work was either extremely …

The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of various instructional sets on the MMPI performance of prisoners. Specifically, an attempt was made to examine whether any significant biases existed in the scales and ratios used to measure the prisoner's attitudinal set concerning the MMPI. Ninety-six subjects were selected from the U.S. Camp and Penitentiary in Lompoc, California. The subjects were randomly assigned to three groups of 32 subjects each. This study was to determine how revenues from federal, state, and local governments vary across school districts in the State of Louisiana in 1975 and 1980. Also included, was an analysis of per pupil expenditures, assessed valuations of taxable property, per capita incomes, and a comparison of Louisiana with national public school financial data. In 1975 and 1980 respectively, school districts received 56.19 and 52.91 percent of their revenue from state sources, 30.05 and 34.57 percent from local sources, and 13.76 and 12.52 percent from federal sources. This study tested the effects of having teachers use mastery learning techniques in preparing rural second-grade students for the Louisiana minimum competency test. Experimental teachers were trained in the use of mastery learning and assisted in planning instruction that applied the strategies, particularly formative testing and corrective teaching. Each skill in the Louisiana minimum competency curriculum was taught by the regular classroom teacher, according to the Louisiana Basic Skills Test Specifications: Grade 2. The National Teacher Examination consisted of two parts: a Common Examination and a Teaching Area Examination. In 1950, responsibility for the NTE testing was transferred to the Educational Testing Service in Princeton, New Jersey. The purpose of this study was to evaluate Substance Abuse Prevention in Education (SAPE') Team Training in terms of its effectiveness within and among groups of teachers, counselors and administrators. The study involved three parts. Part I consisted of the development of evaluation instruments to measure attitudinal and cognitive changes of workshop participants. Part II involved the actual experiment which consisted of six eighteen-hour team training workshops. Eighty-five teachers, thirty-seven counselors and forty school administrators comprised the sample. This study was designed to investigate reading achievement in first grade children who are symbol reversers vs non-reversers and who are male vs female, and also to determine the effectiveness of a modification of the Kirshner Program (1977) in reducing symbol reversals. The need for research on people participation in development, particularly by extension lay leaders, is especially important in the Philippines where, paradoxically manpower in agricultural extension is limited but abundant in the rural areas. This study, therefore, was conducted to analyze empirically the participation of lay leaders (LLs) in the local agricultural extension programs in two Philippine provinces. Basic data were developed by personal interview of 107 LLs and 79 extension agents (EAs) in these provinces.
