Executive Summary: During the 1962-63 academic year, Western participated in a nationwide survey on cheating. In 1993, that survey was recreated and readministered, nationally and at Western, through the auspices of The Center for Academic Integrity--located in the Graduate School of Management at Rutgers University. For the 1993 administration, 302 valid survey forms were obtained from Western students, compared to 54 responses from students in 1962. In both years survey respondents were mostly female (53.7% in 1962 and 63.8% in 1993), and mostly white, non-Hispanic (100% in 1962 and 92.1% in 1993). The Relationship Between Elementary Teacher Personality Types And Their Attitudes Toward Elementary Age Students With Learning Disabilities, Mary Beth Thompson

The purpose of this study was to determine if a relationship existed between regular elementary teacher personality types and their attitudes toward elementary age students with learning disabilities. Subjects (n= 50) were regular elementary teachers grades two through six from five randomly sampled elementary schools in Virginia. 62% (n= 31) of the questionnaires were returned. The attitudes of the selected elementary teachers were determined by self-developed survey questionnaire using a Likert Scale. Personality types were determined by the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI). A Pearson r was used to analyze the data obtained from the Likert Scale and the MBTI at …

The Effects Of Teacher Immediacy On Student Evaluations, Gail Victoria Rowden

Student Work

This study extended previous research on teacher immediacy by examining the relationship between teacher immediacy and students' evaluations of the course and/or teacher. Immediacy, course evaluation, and teacher evaluation were also explored in relation to teacher gender and student gender. Results indicated that teacher immediacy had a significant effect on student evaluations. Gender also had a significant, although unexpected, effect on evaluations of both the teacher and the course. Discussion focused on the relevance of these variables for purposes of instructional training and future research.

The purpose of this study was to determine what factors influence educators to use the Internet in classroom activities or in their own professional development. A random sample of 325 educators was selected from a population of Tennessee K-12 educators who were identified as having completed Internet training. Surveys were received from 198 educators. The instrument was developed by the researcher for this study. The problem of this study was that no data existed on characteristics of life style management as related to persisters and dropouts among adult high school students in the state of Tennessee. The purpose of the study was to determine the characteristic life style approaches most prevalent among persistent enrollees, graduates, and dropouts of selected adult high school programs in Tennessee. Five hundred fifty-nine persisters and 868 dropouts were surveyed by mail, by telephone, or by school site visits. There were 419 participants in the study, 311 persisters and 108 dropouts. The purpose of this study is to determine the level of Machiavellian attitudes acknowledged by secondary school principals as measured by the Mach V Attitude Inventory Scale. The data were collected from an ex post facto survey of 169 public and nonpublic secondary school principals, grades 9-12. Principals completed the Mach V scale and a 13-item demographic survey. Sixteen research questions were formulated to examine the relationship among the variables which produced seventeen null hypotheses. Of the seventeen null hypotheses, four were found to be significant and thirteen were nonsignificant. A review of the descriptive data indicated that the majority …

Children's Use Of Television In The Selection Of Role Models, Nancy Luke

The purpose of this study was to determine if children use electronic media, specifically television, as a source in their selection of role models. Subjects were fifth grade students from five schools within the Omaha Public School System. Approximately 100 students were asked to fill out a questionnaire specifically designed for this study. Participation was voluntary and anonymous and both child and parental permission to survey was acquired from all students surveyed. The objective of the research described here is to assess how recent changes in the organization of industry and discrimination in the workplace affect the employment of Latinos. One of the most important developments in labor markets during the past two decades is the erosion of internal labor markets. This dissertation explores the meaning the rural inhabitants of the North of Cauca region in Colombia make of the rural primary school teacher. It examines the themes and metaphors used by rural teachers, community members, and youth to describe the teacher's present image, their perspectives on the possible changes, and the implications of these perceptions for future educational interventions.
