Textual Evidences For A Reconstruction Of Vedic Culture, Ved Vrat Jan 1956

Textual Evidences For A Reconstruction Of Vedic Culture, Ved Vrat

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

Contemporary scholars of Indian philosophy are of the opinion that the Vedas are purely ritualistic. This opinion finds support in the translations and commentaries of Sayanacharya and Mahidhara, on which their scholarship is based. The interpretation of the Vedas by the above mentioned authors is against the root derivatives of the words and antagonistic to the expositions of the various hymns given by the Vedic sages and Riahia. In order to be a valid translation it has to be in conformity with the ideas and derivatives contained in Vedanga, Alteraya, Shatpatha, Brahmans, etc. Sayanacharys says that all the four Vedas …

A Study Of The Hawaiian Statehood Movement, Leslie Gay Knoles Jan 1956

A Study Of The Hawaiian Statehood Movement, Leslie Gay Knoles

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

A study of the development of the issues in the Hawaiian statehood controversy reveals the paradoxical fact that, while Americans were promoting the mutual interest of Hawaii and the United States, they were also developing a social, economic, and political atmosphere that has resulted in forces inimical to the consummation of a logical realization of Hawaii’s integration as a state. A knowledge of how Hawaii became linked to the United States, and of the institutions developed in the islands prior to annexation in 1898 is essential to an understanding of the contemporary problem.

A Survey Of Speech Education In The High Schools Of California, Marian Helen Mellgren Jan 1956

A Survey Of Speech Education In The High Schools Of California, Marian Helen Mellgren

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

Perhaps the first justification for the inclusion of speech in today’s curriculum is the very evident predominance of oral communication in our lives. Painter has pointed out that “oral communication is the vehicle for 90 percent of the exchange of ideas.”

A second justification for the belief that speech education is important today lies in the fact that our country is a democracy. Democracy is essentially a government by talk, a government in which problems are not settled by force, but in which problems are talked out of existence or into solution. Long ago Aristotle identified communication with political freedom …

A History Of The Mormon Settlement Of Central California With Emphasis On New Hope And San Francisco, 1846-1847, And Modesto, 1920-1954, Kenneth Wayne Baldridge

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

Mormon contributions to California history are generally well known. Most school children have heard of the march of the Mormon Battalion. The name of Samuel Brannan is known to almost any student interested in this area. The more inquisitive scholar is familiar with the voyage of the BROOKLYN and subsequent relations of the Mormons to the history of San Francisco. The mention of New Hope, however, brings puzzled looks to the faces of most people, including Mormons today living within twenty miles of the area.

The Mormon movement to California was part of a general exodus by the Church of …

The Heroes Of Byron: A Study Of Their Origin, Development, And Meaning In The Poetry Of George Gordon, Lord Byron, Robert Lester Thomas

This study is concerned with all of the heroes Lord Byron created. It is to be a study of their origin, development, and meaning in the poetry of Byron. Lord …
