Conodonts From The Marathon Basin, Brewster County, Texas, Roy William Graves Jr. Jan 1941

Conodonts From The Marathon Basin, Brewster County, Texas, Roy William Graves Jr.

Masters Theses

"Conodonts were discovered in the limestones of the Marathon region in the Big Bend country, Brewster County, Texas, as a result of field work during the summer of 1939. This was not the first known occurrence of these fossils from this region, however, as King earlier mentioned the occurrence of conodonts in siliceous shales of Devonian age. The discovery of conodonts in the Ordovician and Pennsylvanian limestones of the area had its inception in the attempt to determine whether the Dimple limestone (lower Pennsylvanian) or Maravillas limestone (upper Ordovician) was involved in a fault that was being mapped. These limestones …

Oil And Gas Resources, Jackson County, Missouri, Joseph Robinson Clair Jan 1938

Oil And Gas Resources, Jackson County, Missouri, Joseph Robinson Clair

Masters Theses

"The oil and gas production in Jackson County, though rather small, is nevertheless of considerable economic importance. A portion of the county has been rather thoroughly developed but the remainder has had little prospecting. In order to aid further development in the region the Missouri Geological Survey engaged in the mapping of all the known wells in the county as a basis for preparing a structural contour map of the area. In addition, a member of the Survey staff is stationed permanently in Kansas City to give assistance to the operators in the region and to collect the logs of …

Petrographic Analyses Of The Chepultepec Sandstones Of The Norris Reservoir Region, Tennessee, Chilton Eaton Prouty Jan 1938

Petrographic Analyses Of The Chepultepec Sandstones Of The Norris Reservoir Region, Tennessee, Chilton Eaton Prouty

Masters Theses

"The Norris Reservoir is located in northeastern Tennessee, in the Appalachian Valley. It includes all or portions of Anderson, Campbell, Claiborne, Granger, Knox, and Union counties. The area is shown by the map of Pate I. It is approximately thirty-five miles long in a northeast-southwest direction and about eighteen to twenty miles wide, in a northwest-southeast direction. The area is bounded on the northwest by the Cumberland escarpment and on the southeast by Clinch Mountain. The other boundaries are arbitrarily drawn near the town of Clinton to the southwest and near Tazewell to the northeast"--Introduction. Location and Nature of the …

Studies In The Distribution Of Orbitolina Walnutensis Carsey, Shirley Alfred Lynch Jan 1931

Studies In The Distribution Of Orbitolina Walnutensis Carsey, Shirley Alfred Lynch

Masters Theses

"This paper has shown the stratigraphic and geographic range of the foraminifer, Orbitolina walnutesis Carsey. Samples from sections in thirteen counties in north and north central Texas have been studied. Many geologists have previously studied these sections in detail, correlation them and published the results"--Summary and Conclusions, page 73.

Some Results Of Magnetometric Surveying In Missouri, John Gustave Grohskopf Jan 1931

Some Results Of Magnetometric Surveying In Missouri, John Gustave Grohskopf

Masters Theses

"This thesis describes the results of a series of magnetic surveys carried on in the state of Missouri. The financial assistance required for the work was granted in the form of a fellowship to the author by the Industrial Club of the Industrial Bureau of St. Louis; Mr. George S. Smith, Director. Since the progress of any industrial center is accelerated by the mineral resources contiguous to it, the Industrial Club believed that further research upon known and also undeveloped mineral deposits might result in the development of them. It was decided that geophysical methods of research might show greater …

Revision Of The Jefferson City Formation In The Rolla Quadrangle, James Shelley Cullison Jan 1930

Revision Of The Jefferson City Formation In The Rolla Quadrangle, James Shelley Cullison

Masters Theses

"The geology of the Rolla quadrangle was mapped by Lee in 1912. At that time all the dolomitic strata above the Roubidoux and beneath the Carboniferous formations in this area were placed in the Jefferson City. A more detailed study of the stratigraphy of the whole Ozark region by Ulrich has shown that some of the strata which had been included in the Jefferson City formation on lithologic grounds are not equivalent to the dolomites in the type section at Jefferson City, Missouri"--Introduction, page [1].

A Study Of The Basal Cherokee In The Rolla Area, Thomas Daniel Murphy Jan 1929

A Study Of The Basal Cherokee In The Rolla Area, Thomas Daniel Murphy

Masters Theses

"The occurrence of outliers of Pennsylvanian age, probably Cherokee, in and about Rolla has long been known. The Bureau of Geology and Mines and the Department of Geology of the School of Mines at Rolla have been greatly interested in the many stratigraphic problems presents. The writer has, therefore, undertaken field and laboratory studies of certain of these problems"--Introduction, page [1].

Heavy Minerals In The Roubidoux And Other Sandstones Of The Ozark Region (Mo.), Cletus Daniel Cordry Jan 1928

Heavy Minerals In The Roubidoux And Other Sandstones Of The Ozark Region (Mo.), Cletus Daniel Cordry

Masters Theses

"In this study an attempt has been made to determine the usefulness of heavy minerals for correlation of formations over a limited area, in the heart of the Ozark uplift in southeast Missouri. The Roubidoux formation, already definitely correlated by other means, has been rather systematically sampled throughout the area, and the heavy minerals determined to ascertain their dependability for correlation purposes. Several samples from other horizons have been studied for comparison with the Roubidoux. Also, within the area studied there are numerous isolated patches of sandstone, the horizons of which have not been definitely determined. Samples from a few …

Concentration Of Fluorspar Ores In The Illinois-Kentucky District, Omar Watson Greeman Jan 1928

Concentration Of Fluorspar Ores In The Illinois-Kentucky District, Omar Watson Greeman

Masters Theses

"The object of this investigation is to study the means of beneficiating fluorspar ores in order that a marketable product may be made"--Preface, page v.

The Middle Ordovician Section In East Central Missouri, Morris James Ingerson, Josiah Bridge Jan 1922

The Middle Ordovician Section In East Central Missouri, Morris James Ingerson, Josiah Bridge

Masters Theses

"One of the most serious difficulties confronting anyone working on stratigraphic problems in the Ozark area is the lack of detailed faunal lists of the various formations. A great deal of general work has been done, but very few detailed faunal studies have ever been published, and correlation of the Missouri section with sections in adjoining states is often difficult.

In a recent paper, Dake has discussed the origin and correlation of the St. Peter sandstone. In this study he found considerable difficulty in correlating the various formations above the St. Peter, and at his suggestion, the present study was …
