Though claiming a large area, settled Georgia was a small colony, extending down the seacoast from its main port of Savannah and up the Savannah River to Augusta, with fewer than a dozen places that could be called towns. The British had carefully nurtured this colony since shortly before the final struggle with France for control of the North American continent in the middle of the eighteenth century. Most of the colony’s trade was with British; and it was prosperous, even though by 1774 the population was only about 35,000, of whom 15,000 were slaves.

A nucleus with an asymmetric charge distribution (an asymmetric arrangement of protons) exhibits a quadrupole moment which interacts with the gradient of the electric field of the surrounding electrons. The interaction energy is a function of the angle between the nuclear spin axis and the axis of the surrounding electric field. The nucleus processes about the electric field axis in quantized energy states. These rumors were further exaggerated by Cabeza de Vaca and the survivor of the Narvaez expedition when they returned to Mexico City in 1536 and by the reports to Fray Marcos de Niza who led an exploration into Zuni territory in western New Mexico in 1S39. The Cerro Pelon-Arroyo de la Jara area is a north-northwesterly plunging syncline at the southern end of the Española basin. Exposed rock units consist of more than 5,000 feet of Mesozoic and Cenozoic shale and sandstone intruded by Oligocene diorite sills and andesite and latite dikes related to the Ortiz intrusive center to the west.

The syncline is affected by several fault systems with both normal and strike-slip movement represented. Northerly trending faults of the east limb combine with a monoclinal flexure to produce an over-all lowering of the section to the west. These faults appear to be related to …

The effect of population structure on genetic drift was studied using three computer models to simulate the populations of interest. For each model the effective breeding population size was 100, and the initial gene frequency for a locus with two alleles (A, a) was 0.5. These populations were considered to be made up of sexually reproducing diploid organisms. The population size was held constant from generation to generation, and generations were nonoverlapping. Plethodon neomexicanus, the Jemez Mountains Salamander, is endemic to the Jemez Mountains where it is restricted to talus slopes that are forested and shaded and that have suitable conditions of moisture and temperature. During the summer of 1966 four new localities were found, yielding information on the combination of factors which favor the presence of this salamander. Its habitat is at elevations of 7900-9200 ft within the upper montane forest of the Rocky Mountains. In the Jemez Mountains this forest exists at these elevations only on shaded north-facing slopes or in deep, shaded canyons. The presence of volcanic talus provides …

The primary concern in my work is woman as an idealized goddess whose perfect beauty engenders the attributes of timelessness, sterility, and death. My ideas, although first encountered in literature, found visual realization in the images of the Vogue woman and the Renaissance Madonna. Both of these goddess figures are paradoxical in that they are real persons idealized and placed in a queenly context, and they consequently form a tension between illusion and reality. Chamberlain's constant changing must be understood as the thread which connects each of his works to the whole of his effort. In a formal organization, what determines who stays in and who drops out? The purpose of this study is to test the hypothesis that the closer the “fit”, the less likelihood that members will drop out. The concept of “fit” and “non-fit” is not a conception of a simple dichotomy but of degrees and kinds of “fit” and “non-fit.” With this in mind, then, the research in this study is focused on an exploration of sub-cultural variations ; that is, sub-cultures that are more less congruent with a given set of role expectations.

The ommidirectional cosmic ray fluxes at an altitude of 300 miles and within ± 34 degrees latitude were studied using two Cerenkov counters and a scintillation counter aboard the 0S0-82 Satellite. The fluxes were found to depend strongly on the geomagnetic field with the trapped particles in the South Atlantic Radiation Anomaly being directional in some locations.

The response of regional circulation to reduced body temperature was studied in the white laboratory rat Rattus rattus, using injected ²²Na as a tracer. Observations made on equilibration of plasma and tissue radiosodium, in normo- and hypothermic animals, provided evidence as to possible mechanisms responsible for transport of sodium at this interface. Evidence is also presented as to disposition of sodium in tissues during the first biological half-life.

The cross sections for the production of the ²⁰⁷Pb^m state from ²⁰⁷Pb(n, n') and ²⁰⁸Pb(n, 2n) have been measured from the threshold through 14 MeV by observing the 1 .064 MeV gamma ray in the decay of ²⁰⁷Pb^m (T _½ = 0.818 ± 0.004 sec) with a 3 in. x 3 in. NaI (T1) detector. Separated lead isotopes were irradiated for 4 sec and pneumatically transported to the detector. A 400-channel analyzer a used a time analyzer to record counts from neutron monitor during the irradiation and from the detector after the irradiation. These …
