Comparison Of Solar Hot Water Systems Simulated In Energygauge Usa And Trnsys 15, Florida Solar Energy Center, Michael Anello Nov 2006

Comparison Of Solar Hot Water Systems Simulated In Energygauge Usa And Trnsys 15, Florida Solar Energy Center, Michael Anello

FSEC Energy Research Center®

This document is meant to serve as a detailed summary of the comparison between the simulation methods of EnergyGauge USA and TRNSYS (version 15) relating to solar hot water systems. The initial motivation behind this comparison was to verify that the f-chart model created for EnergyGauge's solar hot water calculations was reporting the correct results. To this end, models of three systems were created in TRNSYS in order to serve as a baseline for the EnergyGauge results. The three systems modeled were: Liquid-active closed loop (LACL), Liquid-active open loop (LAOL), Integrated collector storage (ICS). This document will detail each of …

Universal Chloroplast Integration And Expression Vectors, Transformed Plants And Products Thereof, Henry Daniell Oct 2006

Universal Chloroplast Integration And Expression Vectors, Transformed Plants And Products Thereof, Henry Daniell

UCF Patents

The invention provides universal chloroplast integration and expression vectors which are competent to stably transform and integrate genes of interest into chloroplast genome of multiple species of plants. Transformed plants and their progeny are provided. Monocotyledonous and dicotyledonous plants are transformed which have never been transformed heretofore. Plants transformed with a synthetic gene express valuable biodegradable protein-based polymers (PBPs). Transformed plants produce high value molecules. Resistance is provided to agricultural crops against the major classes of chemical herbicides. Herbicide resistance is used as a lethal selectable marker for chloroplast transformation. The transformed plants are capable of expressing in addition to …

Baseball's New Cba, Richard C. Crepeau Oct 2006

Baseball's New Cba, Richard C. Crepeau

On Sport and Society

As the World Series came to an end on Friday with Tony LaRussa receiving his latest anointing from the fans of Cardinal Nation (prepare yourselves for another book), others were left to wonder at the fantastic turnaround by the Tigers, who went from juggernaut to gift-givers in less than a week. The baseball story that was of greater significance was the announcement that a new contract agreement had been reached between the Players Association and the baseball owners. Collective bargaining, it seems, has worked once again, establishing a two time winning streak for the players, the owners, and the fans.

Measured Impacts Of Proper Air Conditioning Sizing In Four Florida Case Study Homes, Florida Solar Energy Center, Jeffrey Sonne Oct 2006

Measured Impacts Of Proper Air Conditioning Sizing In Four Florida Case Study Homes, Florida Solar Energy Center, Jeffrey Sonne

FSEC Energy Research Center®

Previous studies have shown that residential air-conditioning system oversizing is a common practice that has both energy and comfort penalties. A Florida Power and Light / Florida Solar Energy Center (FSEC) study involving over 350 homes found that 50% of the studies AC systems were over sized by 120% or more (James et al. 1997). The same study found oversizing AC systems by 1.0 to 1.2 times Manual J resulted in 3.7% higher cooling energy use and oversizing systems 1.2 to 1.5 times Manual J resulted in 9.3% higher cooling energy use.

The goal of Task 3.2, Benefits of Proper …

Ring Geometry Diode Lasers Arrays And Methods So That They Are Coherent With Each Other., Michael Bass, Jun Dong Oct 2006

Ring Geometry Diode Lasers Arrays And Methods So That They Are Coherent With Each Other., Michael Bass, Jun Dong

UCF Patents

Systems, configurations and methods of using laser diodes in ring-shaped arrays placed a distance away from thin disk solid-state laser gain media, which provide uniformly absorbed pump power distribution with high absorption efficiency. This results in major improvements in the scalability and ruggedness of such lasers and disk laser amplifiers. Use of the diode laser pump configurations of the invention results in compact, robust and scalable lasers that produce high quality, high power outputs.

College Football Violence, Richard C. Crepeau Oct 2006

College Football Violence, Richard C. Crepeau

On Sport and Society

It was an ugly scene last Saturday. Players from both teams were pushing, shoving, and punching one another. Some players were thrown to the ground and kicked by others. Coaches and stadium security, as well as local police, got onto the field to try to gain control of the situation, but as soon as they stopped one fight, another broke out.

Building America Industrialized Housing Partnership (Baihp), Final Project Report, September 1, 1999 - June 30, 2006, Florida Solar Energy Center, Janet Mcilvaine Oct 2006

Building America Industrialized Housing Partnership (Baihp), Final Project Report, September 1, 1999 - June 30, 2006, Florida Solar Energy Center, Janet Mcilvaine

FSEC Energy Research Center®

This final report summarizes the work conducted by the Building America Industrialized Housing Partnership (www.baihp.org ) for the period 9/1/99 - 6/30/06. BAIHP is led by the Florida Solar Energy Center of the University of Central Florida and focuses on factory built housing. In partnership with over 50 factory and site builders, work was performed in two main areas - research and technical assistance.

In the research area -- through site visits in over 75 problem homes, we discovered the prime causes of moisture problems in some manufactured homes and our industry partners adopted our solutions to nearly eliminate this …

Head Mounted Projection Display With A Wide Field Of View, Jannick Rolland, Larry Davis, Yonggang Ha Oct 2006

Head Mounted Projection Display With A Wide Field Of View, Jannick Rolland, Larry Davis, Yonggang Ha

UCF Patents

A ultra-wide field of view head mounted display has been realized by integrating an ARC display component having a greater than about 70 degrees field of retro-reflection with an optical tiling display which provides a greater than about 80 degrees horizontal field of view by about 50 degrees vertical field of view whereby an overall binocular horizontal field of view greater than about 120 degrees is realized with a greater resolution than about 2 arc minutes. There is also taught a method of providing a wide field of view head mounted display by the steps of: combining an ARC display …

System And Method For Immunosensor Regeneration, Hyoungjin Cho, Shekhar Bhansali, Beverly Rzigalinski Oct 2006

System And Method For Immunosensor Regeneration, Hyoungjin Cho, Shekhar Bhansali, Beverly Rzigalinski

UCF Patents

The present invention allows for regeneration of any chemical and biological sensor systems without totally destroying the primary antibodies in the system. The present invention provides regeneration of the sensor by debinding of the antigen/antibody complex utilizing a controlled electrical impulse. The technique is generic and can be used with most immunoassay-based detectors.
