Electronic Theses and Dissertations

This study sought to understand effective and ineffective instructional practices in clinical settings and to identify problem-solving strategies used by students and instructors. Three research questions were addressed: where in the undergraduate athletic training education program do students learn, or fail to learn, particular skills; "what instructional methods are of most worth" in teaching these skills, as perceived by the students; and what are the problem-solving strategies used by novice, experienced non-expert, and expert athletic trainers when confronted with novel situations. The subjects were nine students ("novices") and ten Approved Clinical Instructors (ACI's) from three programs in the Southeast United …

Factors Associated With Retention Rates In Career And Technical Educat, Jo Ann Whiteman Jan 2004

Factors Associated With Retention Rates In Career And Technical Educat, Jo Ann Whiteman

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

There is a recognized state and national shortage of Career and Technical (CTE) teachers; in certain school districts or by subject area, it is defined as a "Critical Shortage". At the same time, both statewide and nationally, the number of teacher preparation programs for Career and Technical Education (CTE) teachers has decreased. To alleviate the shortage and increase access many Career and Technical Education (CTE) teacher preparation programs use the web. This study examined retention rates in courses from Fall 1997 through Fall 2003 within web-based courses in a CTE teacher preparation program at the University of Central Florida to …

Plasma Levels Of Vitamins A And E In Marine Turtles (Chelonia Mydas And Caretta Caretta), Karen Patricia Frutchey

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

Insight into blood values for free-ranging populations of chelonians is very incomplete. A better understanding of marine turtle ecological physiology is necessary for population health assessments and conservation management plans. Vitamins A and E are fat-soluble compounds required by vertebrates. Vitamin A is required for growth, differentiation and integrity of epithelial tissue, bone remodeling, reproduction and vision. Vitamin E is a constituent of cell membranes where it is an antioxidant and free radical scavenger. Both nutrients are required for reproduction and immune system function. I determined concentrations of vitamins A and E in plasma of blood samples from Caretta caretta …

Energy Aware Design And Analysis For Synchronous And Asynchronous Circuits, Jia Di Jan 2004

Energy Aware Design And Analysis For Synchronous And Asynchronous Circuits, Jia Di

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

Power dissipation has become a major concern for IC designers. Various low power design techniques have been developed for synchronous circuits. Asynchronous circuits, however. have gained more interests recently due to their benefits in lower noise, easy timing control, etc. But few publications on energy reduction techniques for asynchronous logic are available.

Power awareness indicates the ability of the system power to scale with changing conditions and quality requirements. Scalability is an important figure-of-merit since it allows the end user to implement operational policy. just like the user of mobile multimedia equipment needs to select between better quality and longer …

Exploring Life Through The Depths Of The Subconscious Mind, Urszula Blaszak Jan 2004

Exploring Life Through The Depths Of The Subconscious Mind, Urszula Blaszak

HIM 1990-2015

The animation short I have produced is very personal on the subconscious level. There is no single theme; the narrator is the viewer. It is a dream sequence aiming to achieve Kafkaesque quality. About four minutes long, combined with dynamic music this piece of work is my reaction to society, to my life, ever changing surroundings, my traveling, childhood memories, and man-woman relationships, education, feelings, everyday worries, and everything else that I at the moment of producing felt like adding. It is suppose to be a portrait of me inside. I tried to recreate the everyday chaos of thoughts, emotions, …
