Charter School Music Programs In The Southwest: Innovation Or Isomorphism, Joseph Justo Ulibarri

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

The school choice movement is gaining popularity in the American education system, with supporters touting innovation and improvement in educational outcomes. Research on school choice efficacy—particularly comparisons between charter and traditional public schools (TPS)—is in its infancy. The purpose of this causal-comparative study was to compare the incidence of nontraditional music courses in secondary charters and TPS in the Southwest. Secondly, the study utilized the Climate for Innovation Measure (CIM) to quantify teachers’ perceptions of organizational innovation. This research collected a randomized sample (N = 30) of secondary charter school music teachers (n = 15) and TPS music teachers (n …

The Singing Instrumentalist: A Sound-Before-Sight Approach In Instrumental Instruction, Tammy Joy Bartz

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

The purpose of this quantitative experimental study was to examine the impact of two differing instructional strategies in beginning band instruction. One approach followed a traditional method, emphasizing technical proficiency and note-reading skills, while the other adopted a sound-before-sight approach where aural and oral skills were nurtured before introducing notation. The experimental study involved fourth and fifth-grade beginning band students from a rural elementary school in the Midwest. All participants were randomly divided into either the experimental or control group. The control group (n = 21) received instruction using a traditional note-reading approach, whereas the experimental group (n = 22) …

Culinary Nutrition Education To Division 3 Athletes, Jonathan Robert Poyourow Jun 2024

Culinary Nutrition Education To Division 3 Athletes, Jonathan Robert Poyourow

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

This paper examines the impact of culinary nutrition education on the athletic potential of Division 3 athletes using culinary nutrition education. In the last five to ten years, the number of registered dietitians (RDs) working with collegiate athletes full-time in the United States has increased dramatically. However, even at large Division 1 universities that have these staff members, many student-athletes may still be at increased risk of nutrition-related problems that impact physical and academic performance. They may also include inappropriate macronutrient and micronutrient consumption. While a great deal of research has been conducted at Division 1 universities regarding sports nutrition …

As a result of skepticism related to vaccine administration, many newborns and children are without their standardized and recommended vaccinations due to parent and/or guardian beliefs. It is the parent and/or guardian who holds the power to vaccinate their children. Vaccine administration is one of the most successful achievements of public health intervention in the 20th century. The purpose of this study is to use a descriptive case study analysis approach to assess parents' and/or guardians' concerns, attitudes, beliefs, and intentions towards immunizations for their children (from birth to 18 years of age). The introduction of the others will be woven later than intended. In this first novel, the reader will follow the dynamic journey of a young Amara Knightfall. The soon-to-be queen, Elaraina Wastereon, will be tied into the plot …

Empathy In The Classroom: How Great Books Create Meaningful Discussion, Courtney Whitaker

Masters Theses

Every day it seems there is another news story detailing our problem of division and polarization, especially where race is concerned. Changes In Colonial Perspectives On Native Americans And Native-Christian Hybridity, Thomas Kelly Hassani Jun 2024

Changes In Colonial Perspectives On Native Americans And Native-Christian Hybridity, Thomas Kelly Hassani

Masters Theses

The American West of the late nineteenth century is too often exhibited by scholars who study it from the point of view of the westward expansion of European settlers on to Native land. However, the nuance of this short period should be examined with careful consideration. With westward expansion came the proselytization of Christianity to the Native populations who retained their own religious ideology. Historians and anthropologists have studied extensively the viewpoints of Christians and practitioners of Native faiths on topics of faith, prayer, and spirituality. However, similar examinations have yet to examine the more accepting and permissive attitudes that …

Exploring Differences In Perceived Learning For Students In Online Versus Face-To-Face Collegiate Pilot Ground Schools: A Quantitative Causal-Comparative Study, Christopher Komsa

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

The purpose of this quantitative, causal-comparative study was to determine if there was a difference in the perceived learning of students completing online versus face-to-face collegiate pilot ground schools. Higher education institutions with pilot training programs are highly invested in student success and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) compliance. A growing number of students are taking online courses in college, and this shift was accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Perceived learning was quantified using a web-based survey that collected perceived learning data as measured by the Cognitive, Affective, and Psychomotor (CAP) Perceived Learning Scale. A sample of 86 students at University …

This quantitative, quasi-experimental, pretest-posttest, non-equivalent control group study examined the effect of specific language-based interventions on accelerating the receptive and expressive vocabulary development of kindergarten and first-grade students. Though language comprehension is essential for reading comprehension, few studies offer insight into identification and intervention for students who enter kindergarten and first grade without age or grade-appropriate vocabulary development. The study included 70 students from a Title One school in South Carolina, divided equally into control and intervention groups after initial screening using the Peabody Picture Vocabulary 5th edition and the Expressive Vocabulary Test 3rd edition. Standard scores were used to …

This study explores the acceptance of immersive and interactive virtual reality (IIVR) among counselor educators in higher education. It aims to identify the factors influencing their intentions to use IIVR as a teaching tool by examining relationships between various predictors and behavioral intention. This representative survey reveals significant positive correlations between behavioral intention and performance expectancy (r =.56), effort expectancy (r = .40), and social influence (r = .55), confirming that these predictive factors play a vital role in IIVR acceptance. Additional analyses indicate that age and gender do not significantly moderate these relationships, suggesting a universal inclination toward adopting …

Beyond Galilee: The Shift In Focus Of The Ministry Of Jesus Culminating At Caesarea Philippi, Kathryn Erin Dreesen

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

A study of the travels of Christ leads to new insights about his ministry and ministry foci at different times in his life. By segmenting the life of Christ into three major portions – public ministry, private ministry, and mixed-focus ministry – the reasons behind Christ’s different attitudes toward crowds and miracles and his different emphases in his sermons become clearer. Portions of the Gospels are better understood with this segmentation. The locations that Jesus traveled to and stayed in also play a part in understanding his motives. At times, Jesus was keen to show himself to the crowds, doing …

Family-centered nursing care interventions are critically important to help ease the physical, social, spiritual, and emotional symptoms that patients may experience at the end of life. Despite the importance of the nurse’s role in delivering comprehensive end-of-life care, many nurses lack the knowledge and confidence necessary to implement evidence-based interventions. The purpose of this project was to evaluate the effectiveness of a nursing care bundle on increasing nurses’ self-perceived ability to deliver high-quality end-of-life care to patients in the inpatient setting. For this pilot study, an evidence-based Comfort Care Nursing Bundle …
