Establishing Recording Studios For The Purpose Of Developing Indigenous Worship For Tunisian Believers, Frank Fortunato Dec 2002

Establishing Recording Studios For The Purpose Of Developing Indigenous Worship For Tunisian Believers, Frank Fortunato

Masters Theses

Over several decades churches worldwide have focused on recovering or discovering biblical, vibrant worship. With one brilliant statement John Piper captured the current wave of worship and connected it to missions. In what has become a classic motto of the missions movement Piper reminded the Christian community that “missions exists because worship doesn’t. Missions is not the ultimate goal of the church. Worship is.” While not a new concept, these few words helped forge missions and worship into symbiotic relationship. Each morphed into the other in an ongoing continuum. The establishing of thriving, biblical churches that were also worshiping churches …

Variation And Systematics Of The Malayan Snail-Eating Turtle, Malayemys Subtrijuga (Schlegel And Müller, 1844), Timothy R. Brophy Oct 2002

Variation And Systematics Of The Malayan Snail-Eating Turtle, Malayemys Subtrijuga (Schlegel And Müller, 1844), Timothy R. Brophy

Faculty Dissertations

Allometry, sexual dimorphism, and geographic variation were studied in the Malayan snail-eating turtle, Malayemys subtrijuga (Schlegel and Müller, 1844), using regression and discriminant function analyses. Allometry was evident in M. subtrijuga from the Chao Phraya River Basin. Shell shape changed in males as carapace length increased more than shell width and height, whereas females showed proportional changes. This difference in allometric growth yielded sexually dimorphic adults. Females attained larger sizes and had relatively wider and higher shells than males. Discriminant function analysis of shell and head-stripe characters revealed a clear pattern of geographic variation that was consistent with the topography …

The Conceptual Model Of Peace Operations (Cmpo) As A Framework For Comparing National Doctrines For International Peacekeeping Operations, Paul R. Rickert

Faculty Publications and Presentations

This research generates a method for easy comparison of national military doctrines as they pertain to peacekeeping operations by using the Conceptual Model of Peace Operations (CMPO) as an organizational framework. Microsoft Excel is utilized as an interface as a means for individuals or organizations to compare individual national peacekeeping doctrines on an independent framework. This project also utilizes graphing techniques to allow users to view more generalized comparisons of doctrine so conclusions might be more readily drawn with regards to specific areas of coverage, areas of doctrine needing to be more fully or less extensively addressed, and the political …

Environmental History Of New England: William Cronon’S Changes In The Land, Tyler Veak Sep 2002

Environmental History Of New England: William Cronon’S Changes In The Land, Tyler Veak

Faculty Publications and Presentations

William Cronon’s Changes in the Land presaged a radical turn in environmental thought. His seminal work dramatically reconstructed our view of pre-colonial New England. He dismissed entirely the received history that portrayed pre-colonial America as an uninhabited pristine wilderness. In the process he gave Native Americans agency, and forever blurred the line between humans and nature. Since Changes it has become impossible to realistically think about humans as distinct from the “environment.”

Interpretation Of 1 Peter 3:18-22, Jason Hauffe Aug 2002

Interpretation Of 1 Peter 3:18-22, Jason Hauffe

Masters Theses

This thesis is an extensive exegetical work on 1 Peter 3:18-22. It proposes a much-needed new interpretive scheme that adequately explains the many exegetical, grammatical, and theological mysteries within this notoriously difficult passage. Verse 18 is interpreted as an example of the principle of verse 17 that if it is God's will, it is better to suffer for doing good than for doing wrong. Christ is given as the example par excellence of one who was righteous but suffered in the flesh. He suffered for sinners in order to bring many to God. He was put to death physically, but …

Parenting And Adult Development, Rob Palkovitz, Loren D. Marks, David W. Appleby, Erin Kramer Holmes Jul 2002

Parenting And Adult Development, Rob Palkovitz, Loren D. Marks, David W. Appleby, Erin Kramer Holmes

Faculty Publications and Presentations

It is likely that the more engaged a parent is, the more his or her adult development will be affected. Because there is a direct relationship between the degree of investment a person places in any developmental context and the outcome that the context exerts, it has been hypothesized that the developmental impact of parenting is directly related to its cumulative salience in relation to other contexts of development (Palkovitz, 1996). This chapter represents an attempt to summarize pertinent empirical findings, to further refine conceptual constructs, to elaborate upon their interactions and to facilitate understanding of the effects of parenting …

An Examination Of Albert Barnes' Handling Of The Bible In The Debate On Slavery In Mid-Nineteenth-Century America, Kenneth G. Cleaver May 2002

An Examination Of Albert Barnes' Handling Of The Bible In The Debate On Slavery In Mid-Nineteenth-Century America, Kenneth G. Cleaver

Faculty Dissertations

Albert Barnes was an influential leader among New School Presbyterians in mid-nineteenth-century America. As a beloved pastor of the First Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia and as a biblical scholar whose commentaries are still widely used today, Barnes undertook an exhaustive study of the Bible to address the foremost social issue of his day--slavery. After considering most passages in the Bible being used in the discussion, he realized that a conclusive argument could not be made, which was based exclusively on proof-texts. Barnes challenged those involved in the discussion not to ignore the Bible or its ability to provide answers to …

A Study Of The Relationships Among Secondary Traumatic Stress, Coping, And Years Of Service In Firefighter/Emergency Medical Service Personnel, Lynne S. Sanders

Faculty Dissertations

The purpose of this study is to examine relationships among stress, coping, and years of service in rescue personnel. One hundred sixteen voluntary subjects employed in Fire/EMS service in a small southern city participated in the study. Subjects completed a demographic questionnaire, The Davidson Trauma Scale (DTS), and The Coping Inventory for Stressful Situations (CISS).

The incidence of symptomatic stress for the sample was 19.8 percent, higher than the general population but comparable to rates found in other studies of rescue workers. Calls involving children were rated as most disturbing by the subjects. There was no relationship found between years …

Analytic Study Of Criteria To Maximize The Effectiveness And Quality Of Decision Making, Joseph E. Sanders May 2002

Analytic Study Of Criteria To Maximize The Effectiveness And Quality Of Decision Making, Joseph E. Sanders

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

A review of current literature indicates that decision making is an evolving area of study and one of considerable importance to managers, pastors and teachers, as well as to professors and students of leadership and management. Regretfully, the subject of decision making is usually seen as merely one of several activities that differentiates managers from other employees in an organization. However, decision making is a complex process that must be understood completely and made easier before it can be practiced effectively. Given its obvious and cogent aura of organizational significance, it is surprising to note that decision making has not …
