Agricultural Experiment Station Rural Sociology Pamphlets (1940-1977)
Preliminary releases from the Bureau of the Census show that all but 8 of the 69 counties in South Dakota have lost population since 1930, the total loss being 51,715 persons. The farm population suffered the greater loss. Although the farm population figures for 1940 have not been released, an estimate shows a loss of 82,631 persons from farms in South Dakota. On the other hand out of 100 towns in all parts of the state, for which preliminary figures have been released, 63 showed a gain, 36 showed a loss and one town had the same population.
Personality Development In Farm, Small-Town, And City Children, Leland H. Stott
Personality Development In Farm, Small-Town, And City Children, Leland H. Stott
Historical Research Bulletins of the Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station
One purpose of the present research project was to contribute further toward an adequate knowledge of the relative merits of urban and rural environments. In this bulletin the three general home settings already mentioned, namely the farm in the open country, the small town (600 to 1,300 in population), and the city, are compared as to their "favorableness" in regard to the personality development of the children who grow up in them. The data for the comparisons are the average scores made by representative samples of young people from each environment on a set of tests and scales designed to …
The Relation Of Certain Factors In Farm Family Life To Personality Development In Adolescents, Leland H. Stott
The Relation Of Certain Factors In Farm Family Life To Personality Development In Adolescents, Leland H. Stott
Historical Research Bulletins of the Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station
Although "the family" has been much written about, and studied from many points of view in the past, relatively little attention has been given by investigators to the problem of determining the factors which make for successful family life. The need for information of this sort is obvious, and in recent years a few studies have been made from this point of view. The present study was undertaken for the purpose of gathering further information about "normal" families and some of the home-environmental factors which are thought to contribute to, or hinder, the achievement of successful family life.

A Study Of Farm Families And Their Standards Of Living In Selected Districts Of Nebraska 1931-1933, Margaret Fedde, Ruth Lindquist
Historical Research Bulletins of the Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station
This study of farm families in selected districts of Nebraska was undertaken in order to obtain information regarding the total money value of family living and the proportion of the total used for each of the principal groups of goods. A further purpose was to measure the adequacy of the living provided. The study was begun in January, 1931, and continued through the year 1933. The districts selected included Cass and Fillmore counties throughout the three-year period, and to these Buffalo county was added at the beginning of 1932.

Public Charities In Brookings County, South Dakota, Anna Foulks Hubbell
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Charities may be defined as those "public and private institutions of society whose objects is the relief, without compensation and solely from the motive of human sympathy, of those suffering from poverty." In this thesis, public institutions will command the major attentions, while private agencies will be mentioned only as an important factor in the development of what might be termed our present "charity complex".
