Experiencing incivility at work is a common phenomenon that individuals encounter. The effects of experiencing incivility are not bound to the workplace and continue to negatively impact individuals after they leave work. However, little is known about the mechanisms which transmit the experience of incivility at work to a person’s non-work domain. One such mechanisms that may be associated with the negative impact of incivility at work in the nonwork domain is depletion, which represents a reduced state of cognitive impact.
