A Further Validation Of Role Therapy, Alexander Robinson
A Further Validation Of Role Therapy, Alexander Robinson
Master's Theses
This study has been planned as a means of throwing more light on certain psychotherapeutic techniques and methods in order that a more valuable, direct, and understandable method of treating neurotic patients may some day be worked out. The specific problem is to understand and recognize more clearly various actions in Edwards and Kelly's (5) "Role Therapy” to learn what in the therapy benefited the patient, and discover how and to what kind of disorders it might be most effectively applied. This paper is an attempt to help explain, criticize, and continue with the problem, as described and studied by …

The Role Of Personal Experiences In The Formulation Of Social Attitudes Of Liberalism And Conservatism., Harry J. Older
Master's Theses
The purpose of this study is to discover if the following hypothesis, which was set up on the basis of clinical experience, is true. The social attitudes of an individual are as much the product of local personal incidents as of the bias of the education and training of that individual.
A Factor Analysis Of Verbal Ability, Floyd Edward Reynolds
A Factor Analysis Of Verbal Ability, Floyd Edward Reynolds
Master's Theses
For many years the practical value of tests of intelligence, aptitude and other qualities has been demonstrated. As the “testing movement” has grown, a multitude of tests has been devised and is now available for testing of human abilities. Two of the most important attempts to understand intellectual abilities are found in the theories and methods of Spearman and Thurstone. There is a possibility that the statistical studies of these theorists have overlooked a valuable source of information, that is existing experimental information about different processes included in mental ability. It is this possibility that prompted this study.

Some Contributions To The Understanding Of The Stability Of Attitudes, Betty Bennett
Some Contributions To The Understanding Of The Stability Of Attitudes, Betty Bennett
Master's Theses
The field of attitude research may be placed in three categories: 1. Determination of the consensus of public opinion regarding social issues. 2. Attitude measurement techniques. 3. Investigation of the intrinsic psychological nature of human attitudes. This study has to do with the third category. Unless this point is clearly borne in mind, the purpose of the investigation which is reported herein may be obscure. Here we are not concerned with the content of the attitude, but with the mechanism of the attitude. We are studying the attitude to determine its inner characteristic s, its make-up, rather than to show …

The Influence Of Separate Answer Sheets On The Reliability And Norms Of Standardized Achievement Tests, James Edward Kuntz
Master's Theses
Do the mechanics involved in recording answers for standardized tests on separate answer sheets reduce the reliability and the average raw scores made? It is the purpose of this investigation to answer this question. In a previous research made by the writer, significant differences were found between the Modern School Achievement Test norms and average scores made by several thousand pupils of Western Kansas on a modified form of this test in which separate answer sheets were used.

For the promotion of socio-economic programs for relief clients which will be of mutual benefit to the individuals and to society it is necessary to determine the actual attitudes of those individuals toward socio-economic problems. The verbal statements of attitudes toward social, economic and personal problems of relief children of relief parents are inconsistent with and non-indicative of their actual attitudes as revealed by their clinical case studies. The purpose of this study is to discover whether or not such radical differences between verbal and actual attitudes do appear and with sufficient frequency to prevent uncritically the acceptance of verbal …

Transient Aphasia And Some Methods Of Controlling The Transient Aphasia Cycle, James Harvey Wright
Master's Theses
A high incidence of transient aphasia among its cases has been recognized for some time by the Fort Hays Kansas State College Psychological Clinic. Clinical tests of transient aphasia are a routine part of the Clinic’s psychometric procedure, especially with children showing speech and reading disabilities. Abnormally long eye fixations where the word is known to the subject momentary binocular divergence, periodic eye tremors, blocks in phonation either with or without the usual symptoms of stuttering, superficial appearance of transitory deafness, and various motor blocks have been suspected as being evidence of transient aphasic conditions.
Effect Of Expressive Methods Of Child Psychotherapy Upon Intellectual Efficiency, Viola Caprez Ames
Effect Of Expressive Methods Of Child Psychotherapy Upon Intellectual Efficiency, Viola Caprez Ames
Master's Theses
It is the purpose of this study to investigate the effectiveness of a certain type of child training in accelerating the development of intellectual efficiency. By expressive methods is meant the use of different media through which the child can find self-expression for otherwise inarticulate ideas. Such media as finger-painting, clay modeling, dramatization and free hand drawing give opportunity for the child to create or objectify his subjective feelings or ideas. By child psychotherapy is meant a method of treatment in readjusting the personality of children. The change in I.Q. means a change in the relation of mental age to …

The Influence Of College Courses On Individual Differences., Clarke Carson Mcilree
Master's Theses
What is the effect of college training upon individuals? More specifically, do college students become more alike or more unlike in , respect to the achievement involved in a college course as a result of taking the course? That is the question which this study will investigate. The importance of this question to the educator is that it involves educational technique and philosophy. If it is found that our educational system decreases individual differences and has the effect therefore, of equalizing opportunity, our philosophy of universal education as an important factor in the achievement of democracy is valid. On the …

The Value Of Relaxation As Preparation For Rational Psychotherapy, John M. Hadley
The Value Of Relaxation As Preparation For Rational Psychotherapy, John M. Hadley
Master's Theses
The suggested uses of relaxation given by the technique of Freud coupled with the findings of Jacobson, Ferenczi and Bagchi have prompted the investigator to make some observations of the function of relaxation in rational psychotherapy. This presupposes that relaxation is used with considerable discretion. The investigation has been stimulated by a growing tendency in the Fort Hays Kansas State College Psychological Clinic to treat patients from the standpoint of the whole individual until specific traumata can be discovered In considering the value of relaxation, it may be well to think of the individual in much the same manner as …

What are the sociological and psychological effects of occupational therapy and school work upon patients in the clinic? In order to arrive at a solution of the foregoing problems, a study of 100 children entering the Hays Crippled Children's Clinic was made . Both laboratory and questionnaire methods were used.

Memory was measured at the end of two weeks after one, two, three, four and five readings. The other factors investigated in relation to memory ability were the effect of rereading upon retention, sex differences, and the correlation of retention of factual …
