The Psychology Of Conversion, James Roy Smith
The Psychology Of Conversion, James Roy Smith
Master's Theses
The present study of conversion is approached through the medium of psychology, which, like the Christian religion, is extremely interested in human beings. Christianity owes to psychology a great debt of gratitude for the light which it has thrown upon the vast recesses of the human mind and upon the possibilities in the personality which Christianity would convert.
There has been no hesitation to employ whatever information psychology may offer concerning the processes at work in conversion, together with any technique which might serve to increase its likelihood. It is not the purpose of this thesis to champion the cause of …

Observations Of The Use And Efficacy Of Changing A Patient's Concept Of His Role: A Psychotherapeutic Device, Ethel Edwards
Observations Of The Use And Efficacy Of Changing A Patient's Concept Of His Role: A Psychotherapeutic Device, Ethel Edwards
Master's Theses
The problem we faced was to try to develop some form of psychotherapy that would not consume a great deal of time. It was desirable that it should be applicable to a wide range in type of cases and that it should be simple enough so that it would require little training on the part of the therapist. Semantics suggests that a personality may be built up because of language. The use of words as a means of communication has created a civilization yet each person because of individual differences and experiences has his own interpretation of these words. As …
A Further Validation Of Role Therapy, Alexander Robinson
A Further Validation Of Role Therapy, Alexander Robinson
Master's Theses
This study has been planned as a means of throwing more light on certain psychotherapeutic techniques and methods in order that a more valuable, direct, and understandable method of treating neurotic patients may some day be worked out. The specific problem is to understand and recognize more clearly various actions in Edwards and Kelly's (5) "Role Therapy” to learn what in the therapy benefited the patient, and discover how and to what kind of disorders it might be most effectively applied. This paper is an attempt to help explain, criticize, and continue with the problem, as described and studied by …

Some Contributions To The Understanding Of The Stability Of Attitudes, Betty Bennett
Some Contributions To The Understanding Of The Stability Of Attitudes, Betty Bennett
Master's Theses
The field of attitude research may be placed in three categories: 1. Determination of the consensus of public opinion regarding social issues. 2. Attitude measurement techniques. 3. Investigation of the intrinsic psychological nature of human attitudes. This study has to do with the third category. Unless this point is clearly borne in mind, the purpose of the investigation which is reported herein may be obscure. Here we are not concerned with the content of the attitude, but with the mechanism of the attitude. We are studying the attitude to determine its inner characteristic s, its make-up, rather than to show …

The Role Of Personal Experiences In The Formulation Of Social Attitudes Of Liberalism And Conservatism, Harry J. Older
Master's Theses
The purpose of this study is to discover if the following hypothesis, which was set up on the basis of clinical experience, is true. The social attitudes of an individual are as much the product of local personal incidents as of the bias of the education and training of that individual.
A Factor Analysis Of Verbal Ability, Floyd Edward Reynolds
A Factor Analysis Of Verbal Ability, Floyd Edward Reynolds
Master's Theses
For many years the practical value of tests of intelligence, aptitude and other qualities has been demonstrated. As the “testing movement” has grown, a multitude of tests has been devised and is now available for testing of human abilities. Two of the most important attempts to understand intellectual abilities are found in the theories and methods of Spearman and Thurstone. There is a possibility that the statistical studies of these theorists have overlooked a valuable source of information, that is existing experimental information about different processes included in mental ability. It is this possibility that prompted this study.
