The Ku Klux Klan In Indiana In The 1920'S As Viewed By The Indiana Catholic And Record, Joseph M. White Jan 1974

The Ku Klux Klan In Indiana In The 1920'S As Viewed By The Indiana Catholic And Record, Joseph M. White

Graduate Thesis Collection

The Ku Klux Klan during the 1920's attained a high level of influence though not outright control in the political and social affairs of Indiana. The Klan with its nativist vision of American life regarded with hostility the deviant values represented by Negroes, Jews, Roman Catholics, and aliens. The irony of the rise of this movement in Indiana was that the population of these minorities was proportionally lower in the Hoosier state than in most other states.

The Impact Of The Immigration Act Of 1924 On American-Japanese Relations, Mazika E. Anthony Jul 1969

The Impact Of The Immigration Act Of 1924 On American-Japanese Relations, Mazika E. Anthony

History Theses & Dissertations

The abrogation of the Gentlemen's Agreement. and the manner in which it was achieved deeply hurt Japanese pride, which had reached new proportions in the 20th century. The American action was interpreted as a deliberate affront to a friendly nation, and upset the traditional amity which had characterized American-Japanese relations since the opening of Japan by 'Commodore Mathew C. Perry. It is the aim of this paper to show the extent of anti-Japanese agitation in the United States, the impact of the Immigration Act of 1924 on American-Japanese relations, and its relationship to the conflict which developed between the two …

A Study Of Negro Riots In The United States 1963-1968, Leona Ann Chase Apr 1969

A Study Of Negro Riots In The United States 1963-1968, Leona Ann Chase

Master's Theses

The purpose of this study was to examine the civil rights phenomena in the context of the Negro riots during the years 1963-1968. The inadequacies of this study are in part due to the material upon which it is based. The reports of the state study commissions did not deal with racism adequately, or the probability of implementation of various recommendations. Consequently, this paper could not treat these topics except perfunctorily. In turn, it was difficult to assess the practicality of various proposal since the extent of these variables was unknown. The failure of thee Kerner Commission report to outline …

The Redevelopment Of Russell County, Virginia : A Survey Of The Causes Of Poverty In An Appalachian County And Efforts To Correct Them, Daniel Alvin Dye

Master's Theses

The purpose of this paper is to describe the economic, social, and political conditions in Russell County that have caused it to be classified as a depressed area by the De partments of Commerce and Labor. The years 1950 to 1966 were selected by this writer because it seems that the poverty of the people of the county began emerging immedi ately after the Second World War and has become more pro nounced since that time. For historical and comparative purposes, certain aspects of the county's development from 1900 to 1950 have been included; however, they have been held to …
