To address this issue, this study explores the use of machine learning technology and classification methods to adjust the low-frequency GPS location. The model developed in this research employs features such as speed, heading, and location of the previous GPS point for machine learning training, ultimately leading to more …

Real-Time Object Detection For Screening Cannabis Seed Gender, Prachya Boonsri Jan 2022

Real-Time Object Detection For Screening Cannabis Seed Gender, Prachya Boonsri

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Perception and understanding of cannabis are more expansive than they formerly were. Almost all growers are primarily interested in getting harvests of big flower buds from cannabis female plants since THC, CBD and other cannabinoids are found in female flowers and valuable for medical and industrial market segments. Selecting only female seeds to cultivate is thus an important step to produce THC, CBD profitably. Unfortunately, outdoor cultivation in Thailand traditionally grows regular cannabis seeds that grow up of mixed male and female plants. The male plants will be later spot and eliminated during the pre-flowering stage. This incurs the higher …

Link Prediction Using Deep Learning Approach For Type 2 Diabetes Drug Repurposing, Sothornin Mam

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

There is still no effective treatment for type 2 diabetes, which has been on the rise for years. By repositioning current medications for new indications, drug repurposing can aid in the discovery of novel medications. Deep learning has recently been applied to this problem via link prediction utilizing a graph representation that learns from either the structure of a graph or the semantic meaning of entity text. However, because they used a single representation as the basis for their work without making any model improvements, earlier attempts still had restricted performance. In this study, we suggest a new deep-learning approach …

The Cardinality Of The Permutations On A Set With N Non-Fixed Points, Jukkrid Nuntasri

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

In this thesis, we study relationships between |Sn(A)| and |seqn1-1(A)| as well as |seqn(A)| for infinite sets A, where Sn(A) is the set of permutations of A with n non-fixed points and seqn(A) and seqn1-1(A) are the set of sequences and the set of one-to-one sequences of elements of A with length n, respectively, where n is a natural number greater than 1. With the Axiom of Choice (AC), |Sn(A)|, |seqn1-1(A)|, and |seqn(A)| are equal for all infinite sets A. Among our results, we show, in the Zermelo-Fraenkel set theory (ZF), that |Sn(A)|<=|seqn1-1(A)| for any infinite set A under some weak form of AC and the assumption cannot be removed. In the other direction, we show that |seqn1-1(A)|<=|Sn+1(A)| for any infinite set A and the subscript n+1 cannot be reduced to n. Moreover, we also show that "|Sn(A)|<=|Sn+1(A)| for any infinite set A" is not provable in ZF.

Identifying The Most Distinctive Characteristics Of A Good Solution For Non-Euclidean Cvrp Using Statistical Learning Model, Piyabut Inbunsong

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

A capacitated vehicle routing problem (CVRP) is a well-known NP-hard combinatorial optimization. Therefore, heuristics are the common methods used to search for a good solution. The algorithms will perform better if characteristics of good solutions of the problem are known. There was a research study in the characteristics of Euclidean CVRP solutions and the knowledge was later applied in a metaheuristic. That study becomes our motivation to study the characteristics of non-Euclidean CVRP solutions. To that end, we considered the solutions of non-Euclidean CVRP in the new Euclidean space with the same or higher dimensions using multi-dimensional scaling in which …

Mathematical Modeling Of The Mechanical Response Of Coupled Inner-Ear Hair Cells With Opposite Polarity, Tanawat Ngampattrapan

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Hair cells are specialized receptors that detect mechanical forces in the auditory and vestibular systems of vertebrates. In vivo hair-cell bundles are typically anchored to an overlying structure which provides mechanical coupling between neighboring hair cells. Cooperativity between hair bundles has been previously proposed to have strong effects on signal detection. While the coupling of hair cells with the same polarity as those in the auditory organs has been extensively studied, the dynamics of hair cells with opposite polarity in the vestibular system and the inner ear of lizards remain unexplored. In this study, we aim to investigate the dynamics …

Eastern Redcedar (Juniperus Virginiana L.) Encroachment On South-Central South Dakota Rangelands: Impact On Plant Communities, Austin K. Domeier

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Grasslands historically covered 46 million km2 of Earth’s surface representing nearly 42% of the living vegetation. Encroachment of woody species onto grasslands and savannas is a widely researched global phenomenon, with eastern redcedar (ERC) (Juniperus virginiana L.) trees being the most prominent woody encroacher in the Northern Great Plains (NGP) due to the lack of prescribed fire and planted ERC escaping from shelterbelts. This encroachment poses a threat to native plant communities in terms of their reproduction, regeneration, and diversity. ERC are fierce competitors and can establish in most soil types, are drought tolerant, and prolific seed reproducers. These qualities …

The synthesis of palladium nanoparticles (Pd NPs) using materials-directed peptides is a novel, nontoxic approach which exerts a high level of control over the particle size and shape. This biomimetic technique is environmentally benign, featuring nonhazardous ligands and ambient conditions. Nanoparticles are extremely reactive catalysts, boasting a large surface-to-volume ratio when compared to their bulk counterparts. The rational design of these nanoparticles using peptides has been very successful in aqueous environments, but no research has been done to apply it in organic systems. As such, the biomimetic synthesis of Pd NPs in an organic system is here investigated, with ethanol …

Reinforcement Learning: Low Discrepancy Action Selection For Continuous States And Actions, Jedidiah Lindborg Jan 2022

Reinforcement Learning: Low Discrepancy Action Selection For Continuous States And Actions, Jedidiah Lindborg

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

In reinforcement learning the process of selecting an action during the exploration or exploitation stage is difficult to optimize. The purpose of this thesis is to create an action selection process for an agent by employing a low discrepancy action selection (LDAS) method. This should allow the agent to quickly determine the utility of its actions by prioritizing actions that are dissimilar to ones that it has already picked. In this way the learning process should be faster for the agent and result in more optimal policies.
