Studies Concerning The Elimination Of Experimental Error In Comparative Crop Tests, T. A. Kiesselbach Jun 1918

Studies Concerning The Elimination Of Experimental Error In Comparative Crop Tests, T. A. Kiesselbach

Historical Research Bulletins of the Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station

It is apparent that many sources of error have unconsciously entered into comparative crop yield tests. The very important matter of overcoming variation in soil conditions as a source of experimental error has been quite extensively studied and reported by various investigators during the past decade. The means suggested for reducing such error have been (1) repetition of plats and (2) correction of yields according to check plats planted to a uniform variety or treatment at stated intervals. Both methods have proved of value and a combination of both may often be used advantageously. Some danger always exists of error …

A Theorem On Semi-Continuous Functions, Henry Blumberg Jan 1918

A Theorem On Semi-Continuous Functions, Henry Blumberg

Department of Mathematics: Faculty Publications

Recently G. C. Young and A. Denjoy have communicated theorems—those in Denjoy's memoir are of an especially comprehensive character—dealing, in particular, with point sets where the four derivatives of a given continuous function are identical. It is the purpose of this note to treat an analogous problem that arises when "derivative" is replaced by "saltus." However, instead of confining ourselves to "saltus," we prove a more general theorem that applies essentially to all semi-continuous functions. We preface the proof of this theorem with the following

Nebraska Fossils Which Excite Common Inquiry, Erwin H. Barbour

Conservation and Survey Division

This paper must not be mistaken for a report on the fossils of Nebraska. It is merely a circular letter to correspondents describing and figuring those fossils only which occasion frequent comment. In two recent papers of the Survey consideration was given to the common minerals and rocks of Nebraska, and it seems opportune to briefly discuss our fossils in a like manner. Probably no other State can boast of such a well-preserved and varied fauna.

Nebraska Rocks Which Excite Common Inquiry, Erwin H. Barbour Jan 1915

Nebraska Rocks Which Excite Common Inquiry, Erwin H. Barbour

Conservation and Survey Division

This leaflet it intended to serve as an answer to correspondents who make inquiry about the rocks of Nebraska1. Unfortunately for those interested in such matters, the rocks of the State are few in number, and are deeply buried from view by sand and soil, so there are thousands of square miles in which even a pebble is a rarity. That our rocks are level and undisturbed is practically true. Still there are some surprisingly interesting folds and faults.

Nebraska Minerals Which Excite Common Inquiry, Erwin H. Barbour Jan 1915

Nebraska Minerals Which Excite Common Inquiry, Erwin H. Barbour

Conservation and Survey Division

The Minerals, Rocks, and Fossils of Nebraska, which Excite Common Inquiry, are treated brefly in leaflets numbered 37, 37a, 37b, respectively. These are intended to serve as circular letters to correspondents. Possibly they may prove to be acceptable and helpful in a measure to teachers and others who conduct parties of school children on field excursions.
