A Comparison Of Comprehension Of Rate Controlled Speech By Young Aphasic And Normal Children, Deborah Gomez
A Comparison Of Comprehension Of Rate Controlled Speech By Young Aphasic And Normal Children, Deborah Gomez
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
It is obvious that the effects of speaking rate on the ability of aphasic children to comprehend verbal material has not been extensively researched. The studies cited above suggest that an increase in rate adversely affects comprehension by various subjects, while a decrease in rate may improve comprehension by certain subjects. Therefore, the present study attempted to examine the effects of the rate at which an auditory stimulus is presented to aphasic and normal children.
The Effects Of Facilitative Packaging And Verbal Reinforcement Upon Compliance With Medication Regimens By Psychiatric Outpatients, West Irvin
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
In the present study, the effects of (a) unit-dose packaging to facilitate self-monitoring of medication-taking behavior and (b) positive verbal reinforcement to maintain the reactive effects of self-monitoring were evaluated in six psychiatric outpatients.
A Didactic Group Therapy Program For The Treatment Of Depression, John J. Hansen
A Didactic Group Therapy Program For The Treatment Of Depression, John J. Hansen
Masters Theses
A study was conducted to examine the pretest - posttest change scores on the Zung Self-Rating Depression Scale between an experimental group and control group of geriatric subjects. From a total of 22 subjects tested, eleven were randomly chosen for the experimental group and eleven were randomly chosen for the control group. All subjects were residents of a self-care unit of a nursing home. The subjects used in the experimental group were involved in ten sixty-minute didactic group therapy sessions, while the control group subjects were not treated. A t - test was used to determine the differences between the …
Systematic Relaxation Training And The Process Of Methadone Detoxification, Dennis Crowley
Systematic Relaxation Training And The Process Of Methadone Detoxification, Dennis Crowley
Masters Theses
This study examined the completion and noncompletion of methadone detoxification of two groups of subjects enrolled in a heroin treatment program. Twenty-six subjects who had been addicted to heroin for a minimum of two years and were receiving methadone were randomly assigned to an experimental and control group. The experimental group was assigned a series of relaxation training sessions. Each subject, at the outset, was receiving 18-22 mg of methadone daily. Two counselors conducted the relaxation training which began at the 18-22 mg dosage level.
Completion of methadone detoxification was defined by the following criteria. (1) The subject ceased to …
Sexual Adjustment After Myocardial Infarction, Brenda Hove Long
Sexual Adjustment After Myocardial Infarction, Brenda Hove Long
Theses and Dissertations
"Cardiovascular diseases claim more American lives than all other causes of death combined,”1 as stated in the American Heart Association's Heart Facts 1975. In 1972, it was estimated that 1,036,560 individuals died of cardiovascular disease; 683,100 of these were attributable to acute myocardial infarction.2 In addition, an estimated 28,420,000 Americans have some type of cardiovascular disease at a cost of $20 billion annually.3 The figures ”bring home" a stalking reality; cardiovascular disease is epidemic in this country, the incidence and ramifications of which make it an ever-present threat to all Americans. The greatest threat is heart attack, …
Prostaglandin Synthesis In The Feline Adrenal Cortex, Suzanne Gale Laychock
Prostaglandin Synthesis In The Feline Adrenal Cortex, Suzanne Gale Laychock
Theses and Dissertations
Studies were carried out on the feline adrenal gland to ascertain the role of prostaglandins in the mechanism of action of ACTH. Using tritiated arachidonic acid as a prostaglandin (PG) precursor , it was demonstrated by column and thin layer chromatography techniques that isolated trypsinized adrenocortical cells possess an active PG synthetase capable of synthesizing radiolabeled PGE, PGF, and PGA/B-like substances. Concentrations of ACTH (125 - 250 μU) which stimulate steroidogenesis enhanced the conversion of radiolabeled arachidonic acid to PGE, PGF and the PGA/B products extracted from cortical cells and incubation media.
PG biosynthesis by isolated cortical cells was …
The Effects Of Chronic Anaerobic Infection On Atherosclerosis In Rabbits, Janet Smitheran Bissell
The Effects Of Chronic Anaerobic Infection On Atherosclerosis In Rabbits, Janet Smitheran Bissell
Theses and Dissertations
Arterial disease is virtually a universal entity in man. Some cultures, such as the African Bantus have very little in the way of vascular lesions, while in the United States and other industrialized nations atherosclerosis affects a large segment of the population. With this in mind it is not hard to understand why ischemia, or arteriosclerotic heart disease, is second only to cardiovascular diseases in general as the major cause of death in the United States (4, 42).
Ruffer (112) noted the presence of arterial lesions in Egyptian mummies dating back 3,400 years. The presence of atherosclerotic lesions has also …
Schizophrenia: Institutionalization And Dependence, Jerry L. Boyd
Schizophrenia: Institutionalization And Dependence, Jerry L. Boyd
Masters Theses
The review of the literature dealt with dependence in mental patients. Additional focus was given to the process of patienthood as it relates to the acquisition of dependence. Research on schizophrenia was then discussed and the special interaction of the schizophrenic and the environment was explicated. Finally, attention was given to the unique relationship between the schizophrenic mental patient and dependence.
57 Ss from a rural area in the midwestern United States were given the 16 Personality Factor Questionnaire (Form C). Ss were divided into 3 groups. The groups were matched according to age, sex, race, marital status, and education. …
