A Comparison Of Body Size Between Sexes In Sorex Cinereus Cinereus, Patricia Marie Byrne Freund
A Comparison Of Body Size Between Sexes In Sorex Cinereus Cinereus, Patricia Marie Byrne Freund
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
In many terrestrial mammals, males are generally larger than females. Since shrews are the smallest living terrestrial mammals, specimens of the shrew Sorex cinereus cinereus from north central Minnesota were studied to determine if size differences between sexes also occurred at this extreme. Comparisons were based on measurements of external body lengths and individual lengths of upper quadrant locomotive muscles. External differences showed neither males nor females were consistently larger. The results from analysis of variance on individual muscle lengths showed very few significant differences between individual muscles. Those muscles that did show a significant difference were not grouped In …
Behavioral Variability In Captive Slow Lorises, Nycticebus Coucang (Lorisidae, Primates), Shan Dustin Duncan
Behavioral Variability In Captive Slow Lorises, Nycticebus Coucang (Lorisidae, Primates), Shan Dustin Duncan
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
This is a quantitative analysis of individual and sex-related variability in selected activities of captive slow lorises (Nyctivebus coucang).
The Use Of Visually Evoked Cortical Potentials To Evaluate Changes In The Rate Of Recovery From Phenobarbital Anesthesia In The Rat, Steven Theodore Heggeness
The Use Of Visually Evoked Cortical Potentials To Evaluate Changes In The Rate Of Recovery From Phenobarbital Anesthesia In The Rat, Steven Theodore Heggeness
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
Signal averaging of visually evoked cortical potentials was done on Wistar strain rats during recovery from nembutal (sodium pentobarbital) anesthesia. Several studies (Dafny, 1978; Gines et al., 1963; Roig et al., 1961) have shown significant differences between recordings from unanesthetized rats and from rats anesthetized with various agents. The purpose of this study was to evaluate changes in the cortical response throughout an eight hour nembutal recovery period in order to determine the feasibility of using a signal averaging technique for classification of anesthetic depth.
The results of this study show that the recovery from nembutal anesthesia is characterized by …
The Effects Of Melatonin Injection On Glucose Tolerance In Intact And Pinealectomized Laboratory Rats, Dennis Dale Bruno
The Effects Of Melatonin Injection On Glucose Tolerance In Intact And Pinealectomized Laboratory Rats, Dennis Dale Bruno
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
Studies on rat islet preparations have shown melatonin inhibits MAO activity and thereby reduces glucose mediated insulin release. The objective of this work is to investigate the effects of melatonin on insulin release, and on glucose mediated insulin release in the intact and in the pinealectomized rat.
The Chemical Analysis Of Velella Lata Float, Ralph Lee Gainey
The Chemical Analysis Of Velella Lata Float, Ralph Lee Gainey
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
Everything should be ultimately explainable in terms of the components of which it is composed. In the animal kingdom well over ninety-five percent of all recognized species are invertebrates, a distinction based on connective tissues, though most of our efforts have been directed towards vertebrates for reasons of convenience and closeness to man. Investigation of the various chemicals which make up plants and animals have been diverse, allowing us to get a general picture of what molecules to expect at each state of the evolutionary progression, but for now animal is the information complete, and for invertebrates the information is …
Representative Personality Dimensions Characteristic Of Different Occupational Choice In The Paramedical Field, Priscilla Bernadette Campos
Representative Personality Dimensions Characteristic Of Different Occupational Choice In The Paramedical Field, Priscilla Bernadette Campos
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this study was to ascertain if there are similarities and differences that differentiate one paramedical group from another in the realm of non-intellectual characteristics. Senior students and successful practitioners in four paramedical groups selected were Registered Nurse. Licensed Vocational Nurse, medical Assistant, and Dental Assistant.
Biological Factors Involved In The Absenteeism Of Children From Stockton Public Schools, Fae-Belle Coudeyre
Biological Factors Involved In The Absenteeism Of Children From Stockton Public Schools, Fae-Belle Coudeyre
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
Every state has a compulsory school attendance law, and yet at any time during the school year approximately 12 percent of the children will not be in school - cannot very well be in school, because of some physical, mental, or emotional handicap, either temporary or permanent.
These absentees are what are now often called the “exceptional” children, including the blind and partially-blind, the deaf and hard-of-hearing, the speech-defective, the crippled, the delicate, the epileptic, the mentally deficient, those with serious social maladjustments, together with those who are temporarily out of school because of a disease or accident. The total …
A Study Of The Flowering Plants Of The Plymouth-Bridgeport Area Of Amador And El Dorado Counties, California, Eldridge P. Lawrence
A Study Of The Flowering Plants Of The Plymouth-Bridgeport Area Of Amador And El Dorado Counties, California, Eldridge P. Lawrence
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
Not until 1933 did the classification of Amador's flowering plants appeal to him as a project for future study. In that year, he had his first class in Taxonomic Botany at the University of California. Collecting hin this territory was a definite advantage to him as his acquaintance with the land owners enabled him to trespass and collect without question. HIs acquaintance with the territory also made it possible for him to know where many specimens of infrequent occurrence were to be found. Had he been unfamiliar with the territory certainly many of these would have been missed.

The Distribution And Economic Value Of The Chenopodiaceae Of San Joaquin County, California, Ralph Stiles Raven
The Distribution And Economic Value Of The Chenopodiaceae Of San Joaquin County, California, Ralph Stiles Raven
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
Plants of this family which contains about seventy four genera and five hundred end fifty species widely distributed over the world, are known by several common names, such as pig weed, goose foot, and salt bush. They are primarily plents of alkaline or saline soil and co such a unique purpose in the plant real thriving where it is impossible for other plants to grow. The term "salt bush" according to G.L. Bi-well, is more specifically applied to a group of individuals having a pronounced salty tante, a majority of which belong to the botanical genus Atriplex. This group contains …
