When looking to increase communication and collaboration in our library, we created a team of physical sciences/engineering librarians, library assistants, and administrators. Together, we work on setting priorities, sharing expertise, and developing skills. In three years, we have moved from traditional subject-based instruction responsibilities to working as a team to prepare and co-instruct classes. By sharing with you the benefits of our team-based system to our librarians, library system, and users, we want to inspire you to think about how to implement a similar system in your own library.

Purpose – This study aims to provide insight on the meaning of communication overload as experienced by modern academic librarians. Communication is the essence of reference librarianship, and a practically endless array of synchronous and asynchronous communication tools (ICTs) are available to facilitate communication. Design/methodology/approach – This study relied on a phenomenological methodology, which included nine in-depth interviews with academic librarians. The interviews were transcribed and analyzed using RQDA, a qualitative analysis software package that facilitates coding, category building, and project management. Using data from the 2003 US National Survey of College Graduates, a longitudinal survey administered by the US Bureau of Census for the National Science Foundation, this study examines earnings in the library and information science labor market and assesses the impact of gender and race on the earnings attainment process. This cross-sectional dataset is used to determine if there are significant differences in income among library and information science professionals with respect to gender and race. Purpose: The paper examined and discussed the impact of Nigerian Library Association (NLA) conference attendance on the professional development of librarians in Nigeria. Design/methodology/approach: To capture the salient points relating to the study, data was collected using the tool of questionnaire. A total of 200 self-administered copies of questionnaire were shared among attendees of the 48th National Conference/AGM of the Nigerian Library Association held at International Conference Centre Abuja, from 18th – 23rd July 2010 conference. The Library has a long-standing liaison relationship with the Department of Psychiatry to share information about library collections and services, and to support the department’s teaching, clinical, and research needs. Presentation at the ACRL New England Chapter annual conference, 13 May 2011 with with Marion Muskiewicz (UMass Lowell) and Elizabeth Winiarz (UMass Dartmouth) on the inception and collaborative creation of an annual "boot camp" for science librarians. This inexpensive and intensive program covers 3 science subjects over 2.5 days to bring librarians up to speed on these topics. Usually, one faculty member gives an overview of the field, and another describes a current research area. This event also provides librarians with an informal way to network and enjoy each other's company.

This paper describes our experience launching LIBR 200, moving beyond traditional library instruction to integrating digital information literacy into the larger curriculum. By creating a credit course that focuses on digital information literacy, the NLU Library was able to fill a void in the general education curriculum, thus making it possible for LIBR 200 to be included in undergraduate degree programs. The authors surveyed librarians to determine the reasons why they do or do not attend conferences, as well as what their attitudes were toward the various conference offerings such as roundtables, poster presentations, and the like. Librarians were queried to gather a variety of demographic and professional data. The resulting data were analyzed to find significant relationships between respondents’ demographic information and their attitudes toward specific conference offerings. The two most cited reasons given for going to conferences were professional rejuvenation and networking, both benefits not directly related to conference content. In addition to quantitative results, respondents replied to open-ended …
