A Study Guide For A Course In Senior High School Health, C. H. Robinson

Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy ETDs

Since the workbook is a comparatively recent development, it is advisable to give a comprehensive review of its inception, growth, and acceptance. Conservatives are inclined to look askance upon innovations in every field, and as this is particularly true in the field of education, widely differing opinions have been presented in my discussion of the problem.

A Survey Of The Preparatory In Spanish Of The Elementary Grade Teachers In New Mexico, Leonie Seabrook Eccles

Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy ETDs

Regardless of the merits of introducing Spanish as a second language in the elementary schools of the state, it is obvious that certain preliminary information must be gathered before one could reach a decision as to the practicability of such a move. That is, even though it should be later agreed that the program is desirable, information must be at hand in such a program; therefore, it is the purpose of this study (1) to show the academic preparation in Spanish of the elementary grade teachers in New Mexico; (2) to determine in which counties the teachers are best prepared; …

Public Ownership Versus The Contract System In School Bus Transportation, Walter Schumann

Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy ETDs

Statement of the problem. One of the items that has played a part in the increased costs of education in America is the transportation of pupils to and from school. The tendency today is to get as much service from the tax dollar as possible. It is thought, therefore, that it would be desirable to study two major types of school bus transportation with the idea of discovering which type would give the largest return for the dollar expended. The two types that will be studied are the contract type and public ownership type. The purpose of this thesis is …

Tenure And Turnover Of Public School Teachers In New Mexico, Burton T. Williams

Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy ETDs

It is generally recognized that, other things being equal, teachers who have been in a system long enough to become acquainted with local conditions are able to give more efficient service to the schools than new teachers. The question of turnover of teachers in service has come up within recent years as one of the outstanding and pressing problems concerning the administration of our school systems. It is generally understood that the mobility of our teachers is far in excess of what it should be for the attainment of the best results in our schools. Teachers that are on the …

Insurance Practices Of School Boards In Municipal And County Schools Of New Mexico With Evaluation And Standards, Owen O. Sabin

Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy ETDs

Since New Mexico schools, exclusive of private schools and higher institutions, spend $135,000 each year for insurance premiums, considerable thought might well be given to the question whether or not this money is wisely spent. The problem undertaken in this study is to discover the practices of New Mexico school boards in the handling of insurance in public school property.
