A Study Of Teacher And Principal Perceptions Of Professional Learning Communities, Jeffrey C. Stamper
A Study Of Teacher And Principal Perceptions Of Professional Learning Communities, Jeffrey C. Stamper
Theses and Dissertations--Educational Leadership Studies
Throughout the post-modern or post-professional age (2000-present), high stakes testing and accountability of public schools forced educational organizations to improve their professional practices to work collaboratively (Little, 2003). As a result, professional learning communities (PLCs) have been found to improve student learning among educational organizations (DuFour, 2007; Hord, 2004). During the past 20 years, a significant amount of research has been conducted, which describes PLCs in the educational settings (Vescio, Ross, & Adams, 2008) Researchers note a lack of empirical research which focuses on teacher and principal perceptions of PLCs (Hord & Sommers, 2008).

The Influence Of Collective Instructional Leadership On Teacher Efficacy, Kyle A. Lee
The Influence Of Collective Instructional Leadership On Teacher Efficacy, Kyle A. Lee
Theses and Dissertations--Educational Leadership Studies
In understanding leadership to be the single most important factor in shaping a school’s performance, and second highest factor influencing student achievement, it is a necessity for investigations to focus on what successful leaders do to have excelling schools. Research has alluded to the understanding that the principal can no longer serve as the sole instructional leader of a school. This need for collaboration within the organization places a weight on principals to incorporate others within the school decision-making process.
This study examined how collective instructional leadership is currently influencing teacher efficacy in high performing central Kentucky elementary schools. Data …
Relationship Between The Emotional Intelligence Of Teachers And Student Academic Achievement, David Allen Rust
Relationship Between The Emotional Intelligence Of Teachers And Student Academic Achievement, David Allen Rust
Theses and Dissertations--Educational Leadership Studies
Linda Darling-Hammond (1997) states that the classroom teacher is the most influential variable influencing student achievement outside of the child’s home environment. Many studies have attempted to identify the specific attributes of teachers who are more effective than others. During the last decade, research has shown that teachers who work to develop relationships, while delivering relevant and rigorous instruction, demonstrate greater student achievement.
Additional studies from the world of business tell us that those individuals with increased levels of emotional intelligence are better leaders, managers and salespersons, and are more frequently hired into those positions by large corporations. They are …
Fostering Organizational Learning: Superintendent And Principal Relationships, Ryan P. Clark
Fostering Organizational Learning: Superintendent And Principal Relationships, Ryan P. Clark
Theses and Dissertations--Educational Leadership Studies
Schools have a responsibility to prepare students for the 21st century because the global economy demands a workforce that can adapt to a constantly changing and increasingly complex environment. High-stakes accountability for student learning is the United States’ strategy to ensure that schools adequately prepare students. This high-stakes environment requires school leaders to make curricular and instructional decisions intended to simply prepare students for tests. Yielding to the pressure to perform on tests often neglects students’ opportunities to think critically or engage in complex problem solving, which are both important skills for today’s workplace.
Some school and district leaders …
Sex And Gender Identity: A New Perspective For College Student Development, Steven Ray Wise
Sex And Gender Identity: A New Perspective For College Student Development, Steven Ray Wise
Theses and Dissertations--Educational Policy Studies and Evaluation
One of the goals of college student development professionals is to help undergraduate students develop a meaningful sense of personal identity. Early in the history of the profession, practitioners borrowed freely from related fields such as sociology and psychology to guide their practice, but beginning around the 1960s, scholars began in earnest to develop their own unique body of literature. In this work I examine the development of that scholarly work as it relates to identity development—specifically the evolution of understanding around the issues of sex and gender identity development.
Beginning with William Perry, whose work has impacted so many …
Examining An Adult Education Partnership Through A Positive Organizational Lens, Lewis H. Burke Jr
Examining An Adult Education Partnership Through A Positive Organizational Lens, Lewis H. Burke Jr
Theses and Dissertations--Educational Policy Studies and Evaluation
This companion dissertation reports the findings of applied case study research on four community college organizational units that consistently meet or exceed standard performance measures. In addition, prior ample evidence confirms that performance extended significantly beyond what might be explained by available tangible resources alone. The case study contexts are common in higher education in general: a) an external partnership, (b) an ad hoc team, (c) a traditional, cross-divisional service unit, and (d) a grant-funded student service unit.
Emerging positive organizational theory and research show promise for revealing performance-influencing phenomena and behaviors that are not adequately represented in standard measures. …
Support Services And Programmatic Interventions Four-Year Institutions Have In Place To Assist And Graduate Students With Low Academic Credentials: A Mixed Methods Study, Nada El Majzoub
Theses and Dissertations--Educational Leadership Studies
This mixed methods study investigates the influence of student characteristics and institutional support services and interventions on graduation rates. Regression analysis was conducted using a dataset constructed from multiple publically available resources to estimate graduation rates. Regression results showed High School Grade Point Average to be the highest estimator of graduation rates, among other student and institutional characteristics. The results confirmed existing findings on the influence of student pre-college and demographic characteristics on graduation rates for students with academic needs. Content analysis of survey data from office of support service personnel at public four-year institutions shows institutions implement a wide …

Strategies Under Stress: How Senior Student Affairs Officers Are Managing In The Midst Of Institutional Retrenchment, Christopher Thuringer
Theses and Dissertations--Educational Policy Studies and Evaluation
Higher education had been one of the highest funding priorities in most states, however, in recent years, governors and state legislators have focused their efforts in higher education on cutting budgets to deal with historic gaps in revenue. As a result, university administrators have been challenged to modify their institutions’ academic programs, administrative units, and student affairs operations to contain costs and increase revenue. This study examined the extent of financial challenges faced in student affairs divisions at four-year, state-supported institutions during the period between 2008 and 2012 and the strategies utilized by senior student affairs officers to manage them. …
Identifying Risk And Protective Factors Of Preparatory And Non-Preparatory Students In Agricultural Education Programs Of A Rural Kentucky High School, Randy J. Adams
Theses and Dissertations--Community & Leadership Development
Today there is an increased demand for secondary agriculture education programs to prepare students to be college and career ready through a program of study. The purpose of this study was to identify risk and protective factors of preparatory and non-preparatory students within an agriculture education program at Anderson County High School in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky. The results of this study did not determine that there was a difference in risk and protective factors between preparatory and non-preparatory students within agriculture education courses. The study concluded that students among both categories were equally exposed to risks such as family conflict and …
