Developments In Construction Workers’ Compensation Insurance With The Use Of Biometrics, Kobe Tooch Jun 2023

Developments In Construction Workers’ Compensation Insurance With The Use Of Biometrics, Kobe Tooch

Construction Management

Construction insurance, especially that of workers’ compensation, is vital for the protection of general contractors, but it comes at a high cost and limits their control over contract terms. Biometric devices, such as heart rate monitors and motion capture, have the potential to revolutionize the industry by reducing construction insurance premiums. Heart rate monitors can provide real-time data on workers' physical activity and health, while motion capture analyzes movements to identify unsafe movement patterns performed by workers. By monitoring workers' biometrics, construction companies can ensure their safety, prevent hazards, and implement targeted training programs. This personalized data can lead to …

Using Virtual Reality And Construction Software To Transform Construction Facilities, Jacqueline Ana Badal

Construction Management

The objective of this project is to analyze construction jobsite facilities, specifically portable restroom facilities, and brainstorm how they can be redesigned to better suit the needs of women and individuals working on site. Portable toilets endure a great amount of weathering throughout the duration of the project and can become extremely unsanitary and often riddled with profanity. This can create an unclean and unwelcoming environment, especially for women working on the jobsite. The purpose of this project is to create a discussion around jobsite safety, starting with portable toilets. This is done using construction technology. Virtual reality was used …

Profitability Analysis Of The Commons, Chloe E. Meyer

Construction Management

Given the current saturated housing market, prices of single-family dwellings have exponentially increased. Due to this housing crisis, alternative housing approaches need to be considered. One potential solution to increasing the supply of affordable housing units is a tiny house village community. Tiny house communities can carry with them a stigma of rundown looks and an RV park aesthetic, but they don't need to. Tiny house communities, at their best, can be thriving communities that are anchored in communal living, shared resources, and affordability. The Commons is a proposed tiny house village development that would be located on 1.6 acres.
