Resequencing To Make Up Lost Time During The Covid-19 Pandemic: Case Study, Enzo Av Rienzi

Construction Management

Construction schedules are typically built by organizing activities according to trades as a whole. The entire foundation is poured, then the entire superstructure is erected, followed by interior framing, etc. However, for projects with an unchangeable finish date such as a school, other scheduling methods must be considered when the project is faced with uncontrollable, force majeure events which threaten to delay the project deadline. In order to examine the efficacy of alternative scheduling techniques, analysis of a $50 million school project will provide insight into how tasks can be safely overlapped to gain lost time in a schedule. This …

Schedule Efficiency Associated With The Tilt-Up Construction Method: A Case Study, Jake A. Barron Mar 2021

Schedule Efficiency Associated With The Tilt-Up Construction Method: A Case Study, Jake A. Barron

Construction Management

Tilt-up is an efficient method of project delivery that is best suited for large, flat projects such as commercial warehouses and distribution centers. The hypothesis is that this method of casting wall panels on site, and then tilting them upright, allows for certain unique activity sequences which could provide faster project completion. In order to prove this theory, analysis of two tilt-up projects completed within a mile of each other by the same contractor, and assessment of their schedules, will provide insight into the specific tasks that allow for better delivery speed. This methodology paired with interviews of team members, …

Implementing Weekly Work Plan Lab Into Cm 214 - Residential Construction, David Maslan

Construction Management

A schedule is one of the primary components of any construction project and can determine the success of a job. Schedules most often contain high-level line items and lack the details it takes to actually implement daily work in the field. Subcontractors, as the specialists, understand the myriad of smaller tasks that a master schedule omits. It is the job of a superintendent to extract this information from subcontractors during pull plans, to build precise schedules, called weekly work plans (WWP). At Cal Poly it is expected that students receive a well-rounded curriculum in how to build various types of …

The Construction Management (CM) program at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo is recognized as one of the best construction programs in country.
