Kiss Me Kate: The Costume Design Process And The Costuming Problems In The Small Costume Shop, Carlene N.(Niki) Juncker

Theses

In my process of choosing the culminating project for the MFA degree, I originally planned two such projects: a production's costumes in performance presentation and a draft for a tentatively titled "The Art and Craft of Costume Design." Shortly after this decision, the well known designer-costumers, Liz Covey and Rosemary Ingram, published The Costume Designer's Handbook. This book quite adequately covered the material I had planned to include in my projected volume. I then reconsidered my projects and eventually decided to combine my ideas into one two-fold project: a thesis covering all the problems of design and execution of the …

Reflections From A Soul Of Glass, Mills Lyon Jan 1985

Reflections From A Soul Of Glass, Mills Lyon

Theses

I have long had a "love-affair" with photography. As a teacher of photography and a "semi-professional" photographer, I desired to further my study of photography by seeking a master's degree in this field. In so doing, I have had many opportunities to examine my feelings toward this subject and my relationship with it.

The purpose of this paper is to explore both my technical and aesthetic relationships with photography. In examining these two areas, I have also looked at my photographic past as well as the photographic involvement in my present way of living.

In Chapter One I examine what …

An Art Therapy Program Designed For Women Recovering From Alcoholism In An Extended Care Treatment Center, Mary Jo Chapman

Theses

The problem of alcoholism is a major health concern in our society . I t is considered to be a disease that is treatable, but not curable . The number of women entering treatment for alcoholism has increased steadily in t he past few years . Since statistics indicate that there is a high rate of relapse and recidivism within this group, treatment methods that can aid in the recovery process are important.

Art Therapy is a non-verbal approach to traditional treatment methods. It aids the therapeutic process by transforming unconscious and conscious material into symbols rather than words. The …

Archetypal Art Therapy: A Jungian-Transpersonal Perspective, Barbara Cary

Theses

Art therapists are well trained in t he Freudian psycho- analytic approach to the unconscious . In this paper, theory and psychotherapy from a Jungian- transpersonal perspective are examined , including Jung's theory of the collective unconscious and archetypes. Inner experience and the symbolic language of psyche are viewed for their positive qualities and their healing potential.

Attitude s of the therapist toward the image and toward the client are re- examined from this alternate viewpoint . The Jungian-transpersonal perspective provides …

The Role Of Art In The Expression Of Individual And Family Dynamics Related To "Anorexia Nervosa", John Joseph Collins Jan 1982

The Role Of Art In The Expression Of Individual And Family Dynamics Related To "Anorexia Nervosa", John Joseph Collins

Theses

Art can be a powerful experience. In this project , the artwork of a client diagnosed as having "anorexia nervosa" is explored in terms of how her art expresses her personal conflicts and family dynamics. Due to the particular quality of the family system of which the anorexic is a part, it is extremely important to involve the family in the treatment plan. For this reason, the emphasis on the whole family , or more specifically, the way they relate with one another, is one prime focus in t he discussion of the client 's artwork in this study. Although …

Some of the more prominent theories of the aging process will be presented briefly, with an examination of physical and psychological changes that affect the older person's ability to cope with an environment characterized by multiple loss, both physical and emotional. Phototherapy--A Phenomenologically Based Approach To Psychological Assessment, Sheila Culkin

Theses

In this project the use of phototherapy in the psychological assessment process was proposed and explored. The conceptual roots for the phototherapy assessment used here can be found in phenomenological psychological literature, in the history and exploration of photography as an expressive art medium, and in the work of social scientists researching the use of photography in human study. The study investigates whether the photography, its content as well as its formal elements, i.e. camera angle, framing, perspective, lights and darks, distance of the subject from photographer, can reflect the experience and perception of the photographer. It has as its …

Art Therapy With Mentally Ill Children, Phyllis L. Childers

This thesis is concerned with the applicability of art therapy for medically ill or injured children and adolescents, The majority of the bibliographic and experiential research comes from work with hospitalized young people, however a hypothesis could be made for the applicability of art therapy for non-hospitalized pediatric patients, as well , Due to the limited amount of available research, this second category can only be addressed briefly in this thesis.

Hospitalized pediatric patients refers here to children and adolescents who are hospitalized for physical illness, injury, or other medical problems, This thesis does not concern itself with patients who …
