Zoomprov. Improvisation Exercises For Language Learning In Online Classes With Zoom Or Similar Tech For Beginning And Intermediate Learners And Beyond, Mona Eikel-Pohen
Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics - All Scholarship
The improv language exercises in this compilation are chosen from the experience I gathered 20 years ago, but also from the amazing work of Lauren Esposito and Scranton Improv & Comedy that have been more real than anything else to me this past summer, and from Jim Ansaldo, who taught me how to structure improv exercises online. They are organized by level, referring to the Common European Framework of References for Languages. That means, A1 exercises can be conducted at the beginners level but also at all other higher levels, but B2 exercises should not be imposed upon beginners or …

Safeguarding Curricular Self-Experiences In Undergraduate Music Therapy Education And Training, James Hiller, Courtney Belt, Susan Gardstrom, Joy Willenbrink-Conte
Music Faculty Publications
The purpose of this paper is to put forth a model to support the psychological safety of undergraduate students as they engage in a form of experiential learning called self-experiences. Self-experiences pair active engagement in learning episodes with learner self-inquiry. The need to safeguard curricular self-experiences is grounded in the American Music Therapy Association’s Professional Competencies and Code of Ethics and the Certification Board for Music Therapists’ Board Certification Domains. We first explicate several types and benefits of self-experiences and identify potential risks and contraindications that may compromise learners’ psychological safety and even cause harm. Next, we describe …

Digital Humanities At Cuny. Building Communities Of Practice In The Public University, Stefano Morello
Digital Humanities At Cuny. Building Communities Of Practice In The Public University, Stefano Morello
Publications and Research
In this essay, I reflect on my experience working in the field of Digital Humanities at The Graduate Center (GC) of the City University of New York (CUNY) to refute the misconception that the point of intersection of humanities and computation is dependent on robust technological infrastructure and, therefore, outside of the reach of underfunded public institutions. On the contrary, my tenure as a GC Digital Fellow suggests that the development of DH communities of practice can be an especially valuable asset for public universities, due to the waterfall effect they can produce for both the academic and the local …

The Girl House Project: Narratives Of Girlhood And Building A Site Of Analysis, Emma Piorier
The Girl House Project: Narratives Of Girlhood And Building A Site Of Analysis, Emma Piorier
Gender & Queer Studies Research Papers
The Girl House is a tiny home: a 14’x7’ traveling house on wheels, a mobile art installation, storytelling vehicle, and a collective biography. Inside the house are stories, memories, reflections, poems and prose about girlhood, growing-up and learning sex within rape culture. This thesis locates the physical work of the Girl House Project in the theoretical landscape of girlhood studies. Situated in foundational gender theory work by Judith Butler this project understands gender as a constructed identity, and girlhood as a moment of gender production. The house, grounded in feminist methodology, is a collective biography: an expansion on how we …

It is often the case with new technologies that it is very hard to predict their long-term impacts and as a result, although new technology may be beneficial in the short term, it can still cause problems in the longer term. This is what happened with oil by-products in different areas: the use of plastic as a disposable material did not take into account the hundreds of years necessary for its decomposition and its related long-term environmental damage. Data is said to be the new oil. The message to be conveyed is associated with its intrinsic value. But as in …
