Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

In this study, sapwood and heartwood samples obtained from Oriental spruce growing naturally only in East Black Sea region were investigated. Trees of 36-44 cm diameter were obtained from the Karahava region of Maçka Forest District. The discs examined were cut at 2 m above the lower end of the stems. Sapwood and heartwood samples from each discs were taken from 12 th growth ring after cambium and 7 th growth ring after the pith, respectively. The results showed that length, widht, diameter, lumen widht of earlywood and latewood tracheids and the diameter of bordered pits were greater in sapwood …

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

In this study ten maize inbred lines and their testcrosses were investigated in terms of some traits. Dependence of test-crosses on the inbred lines and similarity of the inbred line groups with their testcross groups were examined. Based on the results, preliminary parent selection can be used to make cross combinations, but testcross procedure has to be done in order to reach cer-tain results.

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

The Bafra Plain (latitude 41 0 35' N; longitude 35 0 56' E) which located surrounding of Kizil Irmak delta in the northern Turkey, has a short plant growing season for spring sowings. However, the soils of the region (about 80 000 ha) may have an important soybean [ Glycin max (L.) Merr.] production potential with using the earliest or mid-earliest cultivars. Field experiments were conducted to determine the optimum sowing date of soybean, and effects of inoculation and sowing date on the yield and yield components. P-9292 soybean cultivar was evaluated either inoculated with Rhizobium japonicum or not inoculated …

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Safflower ( Carthamus tinctorius L.) can be a potential oilseed crop for the low-rainfall areas of Central Anatolia, Turkey. The purpose of this study was to determine response of safflower cultivars to weed and the row spacing. The experimental design was used a split-split plot arrangement in a completely randomized block with 3 replications. Main plots were cultivars (5-118 and 5-154), sub plots were weed treatment (weed not removed and weed removed manually) and sub-sub plots were row spacing (20, 40 and 60 cm). The hand weeding decreased the weed density by 75.3%, conversely increased the safflower yield by 36.3%. …

A Study On The Lipase-Catalayzed Esterification In Organic Solvent, Mustafa Ümit Ünal Jan 1998

A Study On The Lipase-Catalayzed Esterification In Organic Solvent, Mustafa Ümit Ünal

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

This study was undertaken to investigate effect of molecular sieves on the esterification reaction between lauric acid and geraniol in isooctane catalyzed by immobilized lipase in a batch and continuous-loop packed-bed reactor. Molecular sieves were used to reduce the inhibitive effect of water formed during the reaction by removing it as it formed. Results in a batch reactor showed that, for the molecular sieves to have a pronounced effect on the performance of the enzyme, a ratio of at least 2:1 with respect to the weight of the immobilized enzyme must be used. It was also found that the ability …

The modes of penetration and infection of the isolates belonging various anastomosis groups (AG-2 type 1, AG-2 type 2, AG-3, AG-4 and Ag-5) of Rhizoctonia solani Kühn isolated from potatoes were investigated on the underground stems of the host. During the process of penetration, infection cushions were observed in all isolates in addition to the formation of labote appressoria by AG-3, AG-5 and direct hypel penetration of AG-4. Numerous fine infection pegs formed from infection cushions grew between or into epidermal cells following the penetration of cuticula. A similar mode of penetration was also occured by the infection peg produced …
